To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, BENJAMIN F. SCHROCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tama, in the county of Tama and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow-Sham Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Myinvention relates to pillow-sham holders.

My object is to provide a device of the class described which will be of extremely simple and cheap construction and adapted to hold the shams in an improved manner, whereby the holder is invisible and the shams are retained in folded or unfolded position and not wrinkled in any manner.

Having the foregoing object in View, the invention consists of a sham-holder of improved construction, as will appear more fully hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the holder swung down, and the shams being shown by dotted lines; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the holder swung upwardly, as when the shams are folded and not in use; and Fig. 3, an enlarged detail View of the device.

My holder is formed entirely of spring-wire, and it consists of four parts-namely, two upper stationary sections 1 and 2 and two lower swinging sections 3 and 4E. The upper sections have their inner ends formed into eyes 5,which slide upon the body of the other corresponding section. The other ends are formed into brackets 6, which have the downwardly-bent or offset portions 6, with a shorter upwardlybent return portion and a longitudinal bend, forming a half-eye as a pivot for eyes 8, these pivotal points being lower than the points of links 11. From this point the brackets 6 are provided with an angular bend having an eye through whichscrews 7 pass to fasten the device to the bed. The swinging sections have eyes 8,which are loose on the bent portions or offsets 6, and have their longitudinal portions 9 made with a twist 10,which loosely encircles the longitudinal portion of the other section, then extending to the opposite stationary section and bent into an open loop 11, which re= ceives said stationary section. It will be ob served that the pivotal points of the links and eyes of each swinging section are offset, and, hence, owing the resiliency of the wire, the swinging portion of the device is retained either in upper or lower position, and in order to allow of this swinging it is necessary to employ .the loops, so as to give shifting pivotal connections with the upper stationary sections.

The numerals 12 and 13 designate the pillowshams, and these are provided with cords 14 and 15, which can be passed around the stationary sections and secured.

When the swinging sections are down, the shams will lieagainst and over them, so that no part of the holder will be visible. WVhen the device is not in use, the swinging sections are up, and the shams then overhang them and still cover the holder. The bent portions 6 are employed for the double purpose of giving the two sets of pivotal connections and preventing the shams from being caught or doubled at these points when folded. It will be observed that inasmuch as the sections have a sliding connection with each other the device can be applied to a bed of any width.

By placing the pivot-points 6 out of line with the main body portions of the sections 1 and 2' the said portions act as springs upon the loops l1 and serve to sustain the pivoted portion of the holder in either its upper or lower position.

There are many slight changes which could be made in the device Without in any manner detracting from its advantages, and hence I reserve the right to make all such changes as properly come within thespirit and scope of the invention.

The herein-described sham-holder, comprising stationary sections of spring metal adj ustably connected together and provided with bent offset portions, swinging sections of spring metal adjustable in relation to each other and having fixed arms pivoted to the x0 offset portion, and additional arms provided with loops which slide upon the stationary section.
