Ilnrrnn ramps JACOB BLUMENTIIAL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BUTTON-LOOP,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 617,074, dated January 3, 1899.
Application filed M rch 30,1898. Serial No. 675,722. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB BLUMENTHAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Penn sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button- Loops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to button-loops especially adapted to be applied to waistbands.
Heretofore it has been customary to attach button-loops to waistbands and garments by the use of an eyelet and passing the loop through the material or by securing aclamping-shank to the material by means of a tool or special machine.
The object of my invention is to provide a button-loop which can be readily sewed to a garment or a waistband; and to this end it con sists, essentially, .of an elastic band secured in a shank attached to or preferably formed integral with a button.
In the drawings,Figure 1 illustrates the button-loop and attachment, and Fig. 2 the button-loop applied to a waistband.
1 represents a button, and 2 a shank, preferably formed with the button and adapted to be bent around and securelyhold the ends of an elastic or other loop 3.
The button end of the shank is adapted to be sewed to a waistband 4, as shown in Fig. 2, and I find that my device can be sewed to a waistband or garment more readily, quicker, and at a lower cost than when the shank must be eyeleted or fastened by means of a clamp ing-machine.
In actual practice I find that my device can be applied with a rapidity hitherto impossible with any other device known to the market. An ordinary unskilled laborer easily sews on six thousand button-loops a day, taking thirty-two stitches in each button.
When my device is applied, it lies entirely on the outer side of the band and fiat on the face of the hand. There is no lump, projection, or drawn portion to chafe or annoy the wearer.
Furthermore, my device, while it may be sewed in place by any button-sewer, may also be easily applied at home by hand to replace a worn, damaged, or lost loop, requiring no special knowledge or special tool.
It is obvious that my button -loops are adapted to be sold and used as widely as are buttons and in much the same manner.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A button-loop, having a shank adapted to hold a loop and a base in substantially the form of a round button, with bearings for a thread within the rim of the base, so that the button-loop may be readily applied by the usual button-sewing machine, or by hand, directly to a waistband, or garment, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB BLUMENTHAL.
