Description

mm) I l M. L. BROWN. FASTENING DEVICE.
No. 546,578. Patented Sept. 17', 1895 w azfiarow ilNrrnn STATES FFICEQ MARY LOUISE BROWN, OF ORISKANY FALLS, NEW YORK.
FASTENING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,578, dated September 17, 1895.
Application filed April 19, 1895. Serial No. 546,294:- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY LOUISE BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oriskany Falls, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fastening devices for connecting articles of textile material together for supporting and fastening garments and for other similar purposes, and its object is to provide an improved fastening device which shall possess superior advantages with respect to efficiency in use.
The invention consists in the improved construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my invention as it appears when in use. Fig. 2 .is a central sectional View of the eyelet. Figs. 3, 4t, and 5 are views showing modified constructions of loops.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates a disk having a central aperture 2 and provided with a series of small holes 3 for the passage of a needle and thread, by which it may be secured to a garment or other object. One face of this disk is formed with a circular recess l in which fits a similar but somewhat smaller disk 4., having a central aperture 5 and a series of holes 6, which coincide with the holes in the disk 1 when the disks are secured to the garment. Instead of securing these disks to the garment or other object by means of thread, rivets may be passed through the holes, whereby the material of the garment will be securely clamped between the disks.
The numeral 7 designates a chain, string,- or cord having at one end a bar or rod 8, which is adapted to be passed through the eyelet and then turned so as to extend across the central aperture of the eyelet and thus connect the cord therewith. At the other end the chain or cord is provided with a loop 9, preferably triangular in form and adapted to be'secured to a strip of webbing or to engage with a hook or other object. Instead of the loop, however, the cord may be provided at each end with a cross-bar so as to engage with two eyelets. The manner of using the device will be readily understood. The eyelet is secured to a garment or other object and the cross-bar then passed through the'apertures therein, and the cross-bar turned so as to extend across the aperture of one of the disks. The loop is then connected with a hook or other object. When used as a garment-supporter the loop is secured thereto.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is The combination with the disk formed with an annular recess or depression having a central aperture and a series of holes between said aperture and the outer edge of the recess or depression, of the small disk seated in said recess and adapted to clamp a garment, and formed with a central aperture and with a series of holes adapted to register with the holes in the large disk and to receive fastening devices, and the chain having a cross bar at one end a loop at the other end, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
MARY LOUISE BROWN.
