' A represents the bed of an envelope'machine, on 'which are supported thezpickers B and-all the vother parts requisite to gum and fold the enuelopes. v The pickers B rise and fall -bythe action of a cam in the usual man-v ner, and the pile of blanks is pushed under them by means of sliding arms C, whichv lmove -insuitable guidegrooves,y a, in the bed.' The upper sirface of thefse arms is Hush with thzttof the bed, so thatI` the blanks in reality rest upon th bed; b ut said arms are vprovided-With projecting studs or lips, b, which bear against the edges of t-he blanks and( hold the pile imposition, and whieh, wl1en said arms areA moved in or out, compel the pile of blanks to move with the-same. The two sliding arms are eonn'etedby a,crosspiece,'c, and it 'is obyoui; that instead of having two ams a single arm or slide might be used, which would produce the same ora similar e'eet. By the'action-of these arms the pile of blanks can be pushed under4 the pickers without interrupting the motion of the machine. On the bed is fastened a' projection or ridge,.l), close to that por-tion of said bed where the pickers would strike-the same if allowed to come down. This projection or' ridge ls either made in oneloontinuo'uspieee or it may be made in sections, or insteadof applying a ridge to the 'surface of the'bed, that portion of said surface situatedright under the pickers might be depressed. -When the pickers come down upon the blanks they turn'the edges of the same down over the ridge D, (or force them down into the depression, if in place of the ridgeadepression is madein the bed,) and b`y these means the separation of the blanks, one from the other, is greatly facilitated, as will be seen ily-referring to iig. 2,1vhere the blanks are represented in the position which the same assume Whenestruck 'by the pickers.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' 1.
