1 IMPROVED GOVERLET;
dig: fit lgstule referreh in in tips: itstters emu ant making gm at its sums.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY WETTSTEIN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented-an Improved Coverlet; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification- Figure 1 being a view of a'portion of the coverlet. 7
Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, illustrations, on an enlarged scale, of the various twills or kinds of fabric which enter into the formation of the coverlet, in various combinations, as shown in fig. 1.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
The nature of my invention consists in the production of a kind of eoverlet by the peculiar combination of various twills or structures of fabric, as hereinafter specified. These various twills are not arranged in successions of strips, in the warp or the weft, but they may all, or any number of them, appear in the same longitudinal or transverse line, as 'will be readily seen in fig. 1. These various arrangements of threads may include plain weaving or twilled weaving. In the accompanying drawings are represented six different kinds of twill or fabric which enter into the'composition of the coverlet, partially exhibitedin fig. 1. They are illustrated successively in figs 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, namely, honey-comb A, marseilles B, tafieta or plain fabric G, damask D, atlas E, and crochet F Others may also be used if desired, or some of these may be omitted, provided those retained are combined in the peculiar manner herein set forth as my invention. The geometrical figures produced by their combinations may be varied indefinitely. A single color of thread or various colors may be used, to add to the effect. The dilferent twins and configurations of the fabric are produced in the jacquard loom, each twill being produced in the usual way, according to the configuration desired. This method of fabrication is not to be confounded with figured weaving, in which a twill ofone kind only is employed in various arrangements, to produce the desired effect, as in figured linens, 3:0.
I do not claim the employment of more than one kind of twill in the same piece of fabric, nor producing a succession of similar figures in weaving; nor do I claim a fabric or coverlet, in which various kinds of twills or weaving are introduced, but in which each kind extends in a continuous stripe or strip either lengthwise of or all across the same from selvage to selvage; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' A coverlet woven substantially as herein specified, as a new article of manufacture.
The above specification of my improved coverlet signed by me this 8th day of June, 1866.
