Description

JOHN EARNSH'AW, or EAST .cREENWIcn ,RHODE ISLAND LetfersPatent No. 72,005, dated December I, 1867.
IMPRGVEMBNT IN WOVEN FABRIC.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known thatI, JOHN EARNS'HAW; of East Greenwich, in the county of Kent, aud State of Rhode l Island, have invented a. new Improvement in Woven Fabric; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with thevaccornpanying drawing, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a diagram, the warp shown in black, the filling in red, and the selvedge-thread Ain blue. Y
This invention relates to an improvementvn the fabrics such as are woven upon the loom, for which Letters Patent were granted to me, April 9, 1867, und consists in a fabric, the filling oi which is passed through from one side and back at each 4beat or pick, ther filling being caught and doubled around an independent selvedgethread, so as to hold the filling upon the opposite side from which it is entered.
In order to the clear understanding of my invention,'I will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawing. n i
The warps, .denoted in bllack, are arranged in the usual manner, and the lling, denoted in red, is passed through fromone side to the other, nsvfrom left to right, and there interlaced with another thread, parallel to the warp,'and which is termed the selvedge-threud, denoted in blue in the drawing; then the fllingis returned, leaving a. double filling with a single thread; then the said double filling is beaten upin the usual manner, and the shed changed; then the filling-thread is again passed through, interlaced with the s elvedge-thread, and returned as before, and so continuing, produces a fabric .in which the filling is doubled at eachbeat.
The best prcess'for producing this fabric known to me is that described in the patent Abefore referred to.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to 'secure by Lett-ers Patent, is- 1 The fabric herein described, as a new article of manufacture.
JOHN EARNSHAW.
