T0 v.ALD WHOM IT MAY C ONCERN;4
Be itknown that I, JOHN- RUSHWORTH, ofthel city, county, and lState of New York,ha.v,e invented a. new and useful Improvement in Looms for Weaving; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the-art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This 4invention relates tov al new and improved inethod of constructing the rack by which theshuttle is moved intape and ribbon-looms', end for :1.11. looms in which goodsof a similar nature are woven, and it consists in making the rack of iron or other suitable, metal, in the manner-.hereinafter described.
The drawing represents a. longitudinal section of a. tope orribbon-loo'm, with a, section of the rack attached thereto, the section of the rack beingthrough the line :z: x.
T-hevfigure'is a. detached longitudinal view of the rack constructed according to my plan.
SimilarA letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In order to show the manner in which the rack is workedto throw the shuttles, a. strap or belt is attached to it, as seen inthe drawing, represented .in red lines, which passes over' and 'around pulleys. A reciprocating motion given to' the beitjz from the block a would impart a. similar motion to the rack and operate the shuttles. Areprese'nts the rack. This rack is formed ci' twovside pieces, of suitable length and size, with short rods passing from one to the other, as'represented. The rods are represented by t', and the side pieces by d'. The rods are round, z inrd work in connection with the cog's of the pinionsff, andgive motion to the shuttle when it is thrown back and forth by the belt L. l
Having thus described niy invention, what'I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The mets] rack A, constructed of bars dd and rods c c c, as shown und described, combined with the strap h and pinions ff, in the manner and for thc purposes set forth.
The above specification 'gf'my invention signed by me this 6th day' of March, 1867.
