UNITED STATES PATENT EEIcE.
JASPER S. HIGDON, OF QUINLAN, TEXAS.
BOLT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 615,273, dated December 6, 1898.
Application filed July 12, 1898.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1,.TASPER S. HIGDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quinlan, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolt-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to bolt-holders; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter described.
The object of the invention is to provide a bolt-holder of simple and cheap construction and possessing a maximum amount of strength, the holder being so constructed as to be easily and readily adapted to any particular style of bolt-head.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the holder in position and confining a bolt. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bolt-holder.
The device consists of the rod 1, said rod being of any suitable length. The rod is provided at its ends with enlarged flattened heads 2 and 3, and said head 2 has a straight edge which adapts the same for engagement with a flat bolt-head, while the head 3 is provided with a concaved edge for adapting the same to engage a bolt having a rounded head. The link 4 is provided with the perforation 5, of sufficient size to receive the bar 1. The bar 1 is passed through the perforation 5 before the heads 2 and 3 are formed on the said bar. The lower end of the link 4 is provided with a perforation 6,said perforation 6 being adapted to receive the hooked end 7 of the clamp 8. The said clamp 8 is provided at its outer end with the angular extension 9, said extension having on its inner face the serrations 10. The heads 2 and?) of the bar 1 may be of similar shape or they may be difierent in shape, as shown in the drawings, and may be so made as to be adapted to confine bolts of any particular shape or construction of head.
The implement is used as indicated in Fig. 1. As shown in the said figure, the head 3 is Serial No. 685,782. (No model.)
slipped into the slot of thebolt-head 11, and the annular extension 9 of the clamp 8 is passed around the strip 12. The frictional contact between the walls of the perforation 5 and the surface of the rod 1 is sufficient to hold the parts in their proper relation to each other, and thus it will be seen that the bolt is confined and that the. tap 13 may be tightened or readily removed, as the case maybe. The enlarged heads 2 and 3 also prevent the link tfrom becoming displaced from the rod 1. Should it be desired to' use the head '2 instead of the head 3, the hooked end-7 is disengaged from the perforation 6 of the link 4, and the said clamp S is reversed, so that the extension 9 is brought opposite the head 2.
Having described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Abolt-holder consisting of a rod having at both ends suitable heads, a sliding link located on said rod, and a clamp having at one end an angular extensionand at its other end a hook, the hooked end being removably con nected to the link.
2. A bolt-holder consisting of a rod having suitable heads for engaging the bolt-heads, and a clamp adjustably connected to said rods and adapted to be brought opposite either end thereof.
3. Abolt-holder consisting of a rod having at its ends suitable heads for engaging the bolt-heads, and a clamp adj ustably connected to said rods and provided at one of its ends with an angular extension, said extension being adapted to be brought opposite either head of the rod.
4. A bolt-holder consisting of a rod provided at its ends with heads for engaging the bolt-heads, and a clamp mounted on said rod and frictionally engaging the same for holding the parts in their proper relation.
5. A bolt-holder consisting of a rod provided at its ends with suitable heads for engaging the bolt-heads, and a swinging clamp mounted on said rod and frictionally engaging the same for holding the parts in their proper relation.
6. A bolt-holder consisting of a rod pro- Vided at its ends with suitable heads for engaging the bolt heads, a link adjustably mounted on said rod and adapted to frictionally engage the same for holding the parts in their proper relation, and a clamp having at one of its ends an angular extension and at its other end a hook, said hooked end being reniovably eonneoted to the link, whereby said angular extension is adapted to be brought opposite either end of the rod. IO
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JASPER S. I-IIGDON.
