SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,006, dated November 8, 1898. Application filed March 16, 1896. Renewed August 6, 1898- Serial No. 687,982. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY A. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Billiard-Oue Tips, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to dispense with the use of glue in attaching the tip to the end of the stick; and my invention consists in the improved construction of the tip whereby the leather face of the head of the tip is firmly held in position and the tip removably attached to the one.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of the end of a billiardcue provided with my improved tip. Fig. 2 represents an axial section of the same. Fig. 3 represents a section taken in the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A represents the end of the cue-stick, provided with a central cavity 1), in which is placed the metallic or other suitable bushing 0, having a bore which is adapted to fit the shank d of the removable tip B. The shank d is provided with the annular flange 6, having perforations f f, adapted to receive the rivets g g, which serve to hold the rawhide disk h in place at the end of the shank. The disk It is provided at its rear side with the recess 71, adapted to receive the annular flange e, and thus firmly hold the disk it against lateral movement. The leather end piece j is cemented to the outer surface of the disk, and thus firmly held in place. The cuestick A and the bushing c are provided with a perforation adapted to receive the fastening-pin O, which also passes through a perfo ration 7c in the shank (1, thus firmly holding the removable tip B to the stick A and admit- .ting its ready removal upon the removal of the pin C.
I claim as my invention 1. The removable tip B, provided with the shank d, perforated to receive the fasteningpin, the perforated flange e, the disk h, provided with the recess '11, to receive the flange, the rivets g, and the end piece j, secured to the disk, substantially as described.
2. In a billiard-cue, the combination of the transversely-perforated stick provided with the central cavity, the bushing provided with a perforation in line with the perforation of the stick, and the fastening-pin adapted to enter the said perforations, with the removable tip provided with a shank adapted to fit the bore of the bushing and with a flange bearing directly against the end of the bushing, and having a perforation in the shank in line with theperforations of the bushing and stick, substantially as described.
