JAMES n. TAYLOR, or NEW YORK, N; Y
Letters Patent No. 61,280, dated January 1'5, 1867.
IMPROVED BOAT-DBTAGHING TAGKLE.
yfitte dgehtl referat tu tu time ettets tant mrt mating mi nf tige tame.
'lO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be itV known that I, JAMES R. TAYLOR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Apparatus for Detaching Boats; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description 'of the same, reference being had-.to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciiication, in 'whichl Figurel represents a side view, partially in section, of 'the apparatus as attached to a boat.
Figure 2 represents an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference, where they occur in the separate figures, denote like parts of the apparatus in both of the drawings.
This device in its effect resembles that of a bolt and staple attachment, though with appliances for inserting and withdrawing the bolt with certainty and facility. And' the invention consists in the conlbinationoi the ringbolt and key with the frame and appliances for causing the key to be readily inserted and withdrawn.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings. i
A metallic box or case, A, may be let into or attached to the under part of the seat B of the boat, at the stern or bow, or both, and in this box or case are set two friction-rollers, c c, whose perimeters project slightly beyond the lower edge of said box or case, and through the seat B, and through the box A there is a vertical bolt-hole that will take the shank of the ring-bolt D, which forms the other part of the detachi'ng device, together with the key E. The ring-bolt vhas a ring, a, into which the hook on the davit block takes a shoulder, b, which defines the extent that its shank may pass through the seat and caseibelow it, and a friction-pulley, c, in its lower end, and a mortise, through its shank above the friction-roller pulley, e. The key E has a shank on projection, e, upon it by which it may be handled, anda hole, f, for the cord, link, or rod, which connects it with any suitable device for quickly drawing it, and its mate or fellow at the other end of the boat, out from the ring-boltD, so that the latter may detach from the case or box A. The friction-rolls C C c are to allow the key to belreadily inserted in its place, and to be as readily withdrawn.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is In a boat-connecting and detaching apparatus, the combination of the slotted ring-bolt, key, and frictionrollers, arranged to operate together substantially as herein described and for the purpose set forth.
JAMES R. TAYLOR. Witnesses:
