,This invention relates to 'a new and improved .car-coupling, of that class'vrhch are self-coupling; and it consists in having a xed-hook in' each draw-head, for the link or shackle to catch over, in connection with a link-raiser, spring, and lover, applied to each draw-head, all arranged as hereinafter fully shown and described.

' p AA represent two draw-heads, which are'securcd to their-respective cars in the usual or any proper mannen The front ends of the draw-heads are of the ordinary Baring form, and at the bottom of the frontpart of' each draw-head there lis a fixed hook, vB, for the lnkor shackle C to catch'over. In each draw-head there is what I term a 4link-raiser, D, composed of two arms, d b, tho lower arm', a, being forked or divarieated', andembracihg the hook Bein its draw-head, that'is to say,a prong being at each side of said hook.` The upper arm b is con# neeted by achan, yc, with a lever, E, on theoutcr end of the platform of the ear just over the draw-head, `The rear ends of these link-rasorsADare connected by a joint, d, with the bottom of thevdraw-head, and ou said rear parts, just in frontof tcjoints d, aspx-ing, F, presses, said springs being attached to the 'bottom plates of the draw-heads. -From the 'above description, -it will be seen that when the link C is inserted in one draw-head, and

f its inner end in thofangle-of the raiser D, tholinkwill/.be retained in nearly a horizontal postionits outer end being slightly elevated, as shown iniig. 1; and 'when the two draw-heads are brought in contact with each other,

In case of acar being thrown frorn the track, the draw-head of the car which falls or descends will disengagc itself from the 'link 0,'as shown in hg. 2, the link in the elevated draw-head bearing against the outer end of the bottom plato thereof, which admits of the end of the link in the other drawhead passing o' from thel hook B in said draw-head.
