SPECIFICATION forming' part Of Letters Patent No. 610,142, dated August 30, 189B.
Application iiled March 14, 1898. Serial No. 673,740. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPHE W. LE BRON, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Montgomery, county of Montgomery, State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Match- Box, Cigar-Cutter, dac.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will 1o enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pocket matchboxes and smokers implements, and has for its object to unite in a single device a receptacle for matches, a pick for cleaning pipes,
a cutter for clipping off the ends of cigars,`
and a packer for compressing the tobacco in pipes.
Having this object in view, the invention zo consists in the application to a match-box of a pipe pick or cleaner adapted when in its closed position to lie wholly within the box and to slide lengthwise out of the same, a cutter secured to the lower end of the pick and 5 adapted to cooperate with an opening at the lower end of the box and into which the cigar end is received to sever the end of the cigar, and a packer attached to the lower end of the match-box and acting as a shield 3o for the cutter.
In the drawings forming part of this specication, Figure l is a side elevation of the invention, the box being shown in its closed position with the pipe cleaner Within it.
3 5 Fig. 2 is a like View of the box, showing the pipe-cleaner projected ready for use; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the same.
In the drawings, a represents a match-box` constructed in the usual manner and having 4o an ordinary spring-cover l?. At the lower end of the box is provided an angular-shaped extension c, the side pieces of which are secured to the lower end of the box Vand having the cross-piece attheir lower ends formed into a circular disk d toserve as a` packer for compressing the tobacco in the bowl of the pipe, the body of the box forming a con- I venient handle for the packer when in use.
One of the side pieces of this extension has an opening e to receive the ends of cigars, 5o and the side of the box adjacent to this opening is provided with a longitudinal slot f, running lengthwise the box in line with the opening to receive a guide pin or pins g on the pick to guide the same in its movement. An opening e' is provided in the cover of the box to allow the rod h to be projected through the same for cleaning out all the impurities of the bowl of a pipe, the box itself constituting a handle for the pick when so projected. 6o Secured to the pick near its lower end by means of the guide-pins g is a thumb-piece or button j, which serves as a convenient means for operating the pick. The bottom of the box is provided with a slot lo, through which the knife Z at the lower end ofthe rod Apasses to cooperate with the opening and edge of the box has a slot m just under the 7 5' opening t', through which the pick slides.
Itwill be seen from the foregoing description that a very neat and useful combined implement is provided. The pick when not in use is entirely inclosed within the box and 8o the knife is effectually shielded, thus avoiding all danger of either catching the pocket. Having thus described the invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 85 l. A match-box provided with a pipe-packer rigidly secured to the end of the same, subs stantially as set forth.
2. A match-box, provided with a pipe pick or cleaner lying wholly within and adapted 9c to be projected from one end of thesame, substantially as set forth.
3. A match-box,having an extension at one end provided with an opening, and a knife sliding Within the box and independent of adapted to be projected from the opposite the cover and adapted to be projected from end, substantially as set forth. lo the box across said opening without opening In testimony whereof I afx my signature the box, substantially as set forth. in presence of two Witnesses.
5 4. A match-box, provided interiorly With ADOLPHE W. LE BRON.
a combined pipe piek or cleaner, and a, eigar- Witnesses: cutter, the former being adapted to be pro- LUCIEN V. LA TASTE, jeoted from one end of the box, and the other LOUIS H. RAMBO.
