To all whom, it may concern:

Beit known that l, AVELIN SZAB, of Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Combined Pocket Aspersorium and Incense- Holder, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide an article in which will be combined an aspersorium and an incense-holder, the article being of such character that a priest may carry the same readily in a pocket, and the device is particularly adapted for use by .priests on sick calls and also in connection with the ceremony of blessing and other services at a cemetery.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above-named character which will be exceedingly simple, durable, and economic in its construction.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, the cover of the aspersory being in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the aspersory, the cover being removed, and likewise a vertical section through the incense-holder of the device; and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the cover for the aspersory.

The aspersoryA is preferably made of any material which is not liable to rust and is usually in the form of a cylinder, its upper end being conveXed and provided with a series of apertures 10, While its lower end is more or less flattened and terminates in a shank or handle 11. Near the base of the aspersory a thread 12 is illustrated, adapted to receive the lower threaded portion 13 of a cover 1l, adapted to inclose the aspersory and prevent any liquid from escaping from the device while said device is being carried or is not in use.

Preferably the aspersoryA is made in two sections having a screw connection. Within the aspersory a sponge 15 is located or some other absorbent material adapted to be saturated with water, which water can be supplied to the absorbent material by removing the upper section of the aspersory.

The handle 1l of the aspersory is held to slide in a sleeve 16, and this sleeve is screwed or otherwise detachablysecured to the mouth portion of a vessel 17, adapted to contain incense. It will be understood that the handle 11 may be forced downward in the sleeve 16 substantially to the bottom of the incense-l receptacle 17 even when incense is contained therein, thus materially shortening the device and enabling it to be carried in the pocket with comfort.

In operation the aspersory is drawn out from the sleeve or tube 16 when it is to be used and the cover is removed, permitting the water contained in the aspersory to be forced out through the apertures 10, and by removing the sleeve or tube 16 from the mouth of the incense receptacle or receiver 17 the incense may be poured out therefrom in desired quantities.

The device is exceedingly simple, it is durable, and it is economic and will prove exceedingly useful and convenient to a priest requiring such a device when called upon for services at a point removed from the church.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An aspersory consisting of a receptacle constructed in detachable sections, one of the sections being provided with apertures, an'

absorbent material contained in the said receptacle, a handle for the receptacle, and a cover having a water-tight connection with the said receptacle and adapted to inclose the same, as specified.

2. In an aspersorium, an aspersory consisting of a receptacle containing an absorbent material and having perforations for the escape of liquid, a cover for the said aspersory, a handle for the same, and an incense-receiver carried by the -said handle, for the purpose Set forth.
