TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. FRANCIS, of Newark, Essex county, and State of New Jersey, have invented a. new and useful Device for Holding the Slats of Window Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full,- clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention consists -in the employment of a. slotted bar or lever, that has a. turn at right angles, and
Im'oundwhic'h a metallic strap passes, and secured to a window blind in such a manner that the slats of the blind may be held in any desired position. Great diilicnlty and inconvenience have been experienced after the bearings of the slats of the blinds become a little worn vin the stiles or sides of the blinds-they fall down and close, so they cannot be kept in any position except either up or down. By my linvention Ism able to overcome this diiliculty by means of a metallic strap passing around the arm of a slotted lever, which may be tightened by a screw, thus causing friction, so that the vslats of the blind may be held at any desired angle or position, which is a matter of great convenience. To enable others skilled-in the art to make and use my'invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. y

A represents the frame of a window blind of common construction. B are the slats, also made in the comman way.` C is the connecting-bar that connects the slats, and by which they are rolled up and down. D is a metallic strap which I usually make of brass' or other sheet metal, and .is secured to one of the slats by screws, a 'a. E is a slotted bar or lever that turns at right angles, and a portion of it is round and around, which the metallic stap D passes, and held by the screw, e, sufficient to hold the slat of the blind at any desired angle by the friction. -As the slatlisl rolled either up or down, the lever E is guided andv moves in the slot upon the screw, O. By this device the slats may be held at any desired angle.

The metallic strap D, and slotted bar or leyer E, for the purpose of holding the slats of window blinds at any desired angle, substantially and for the purposes herein described.
