To a/ZZ whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MORTIMER J. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Summitville, in the county of Rio Grande and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Vatch-Pocket and Watch-Guard; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures. of reference marked thereon, which form a part' of this specilcation.

My invention has relation to combined watch-pockets and watchguards; and it con-L sists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter described.

The object of the invention is to provide a watch-pocket which is dust-proof and Water` proof, said pocket being provided with a lock which is adapted to be operated by a combination and adapted to securely hold the watch in place in the pocket'and prevent its being taken or falling from the pocket without first operating the combination of the lock.

The further object of the invention is to provide an alarm in connection with the lock, said alarm adapted to be sounded in case the combination is not properly worked or in the event that an attempt is being made surreptitiously to remove the watch from the pocket. The further object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective means for operating the combination and for opening the pocket when the combination is properly adjusted.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the device, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View of the combination lock and alarm. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the back of the framework or plates of the device. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of ther bolt used in connection with the'combination-lock.

- The frame or base plate of the device consists of the bail 1, said bail having at suitable intervals the sharpened protrusions 2, the upper portion of the bail being provided with the semicircular recess 3. The protrusions 2 2 are adapted to pass through the material of the vest of the wearer of the device, the

said protrusions being clenched on the inside of the garment. The bail 4 is hinged at its lower end to the ears 5 of the bail 1. Said bail 4 is provided with the semicircular recess 6, which is adapted to register with the semicircular recess 3 of the bail 1. The coiled spring 7 (see Fig. 2) is wound about the pin, forming the pivotal connection between the plates l and 4, said spring being adapted to automatically throw the bail 4 open when it isdesired to remove the watch. The p ocket Sis made of chamois or any other suitable material. Said material may be made waterproof, if so desired. y' The pocket is attached at its upper edges tothe bails 1 and 4 by any suitable means. The pocket is adapted to hold the watch, as shown in Fig. 1, the stem of the watch passing between the recesses 3 and 6. The pocket 8 is adapted to slip in:l the vest-pocket of the wearer.

The bolt 9 is suitably-housed at the ends of the bails l and 4. Said bolt is provided at its upper end with the button 10, said button extending above the housing of the bolt. The bolt Iis provided at its lower end with the shank 11, about which is located the coiled spring 12, said coiled spring resting at .its lower end on the bottom of the housing for the 'bolt ,and at its upper end bearing against the under side of the bolt.' The tendency of said spring is thus to keep the bolt up. The bolt is provided near its upper end with the inclined section 13, and immediately behind said section is located a recess 14. The bail 4 is provided at its edge with a protrusion 15, said protrusion being adapted to come in contact with the inclined section 13 and depress the bolt. The said protrusion 15 then enters the recess 14. The bolt is then forced up by means of the spring 12, and thus the bails 1 and 4 are securely held together.

The bolt 9 is provided with the transverse perforation 16 and the diagonally -inclined perforation 17. The functions of these perforations will be hereinafter stated.

The combination lock and alarm consists of the casing 18, on the face of which is located a clock-dial 19. Any other suitable dial may be substituted in place of that shown in Fig. 1. The bell is located in the interior of the casing 18. The pin 21 passes through the center of the bell and is secured to the bell.

The lower end of the pin 21 is journaled in the casing, as shown in Fig. 2. The bell is provided with a recess 22, in Which is located a spring 23, one end of said spring being secured to the pin 21 and the other end of the spring being secured to a stationary point on the bottom of the casing 18. The central post of the bell is provided with a recess 24. The section 26 is provided with a recess 30. The dog 31 enters at its inner end the interior of the bell 20. The point 32 of the said dog is zo adapted to enter the recesses 24 and 30 when the said recesses register with each other, as shown in Fig. 2. The guide 33 retains the dog 31 in its proper position. The dog 31 is provided with a pawl 34, said pawl 34 being z 5 adapted to engage the protrusions 25 of the bell, and thus the bell is prevented from revolving. The outer end of the dog 31 passes through the perforation 16, and the pin 35 extends through the outer end of the dog 31,

The device is operated as follows: The parts being in the position as shown in Fig. 1, the dial-section 26` is shifted untill its recess 30 is By revolving the pin 21 the recess 24 of the bell is made to register with the recess 30-that is, the recesses 24 and 30 are brought directly opposite the end 32 of the dog. The bolt 9 4o is then depressed, and the pin 35, rising in the inclined perforation 17, causes the dog 3l to move laterally. This throws the end 32 in the recesses 24 and 30, and thus the bell 2O is prevented from revolving, and the protrusion 15 is carried above the inclined section 13 of the dog; and the spring 7 automatically throws the bail 4 open. Thus the watch may be removed. In order to secure the watch, it is replaced in the pocket 8. The bail 4 is closed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device such as described consisting of a suitable means for holding the watch, a longitudinally-moving bolt adapted to secure said means in its closed position, a combination alarm and lock attached to said bolt, a bell located in the interior of said lock and alarm, said bell having a recess, a dial located on the casing of the lock, a dial-section adapted to coact with the dial on the casing said section having a recess, the recess of said section adapted to register with the bell-recess, a longitudinally-moving dog adapted to enter at its inner end the registering recesses of the bell and the dial-section, said dog adapted to be shifted laterally as the bolt is depressed, and a clapper suitably mount-ed and adapted at intervals to sound the bell.

2. In a device such as described, a receptacle adapted to contain the watch, a combination lock and alarm attached to the device, a dog entering said combination lock and alarm, a longitudinally-moving bolt adapted to secure the receptacle in its closed position,

the dog passing through a perforation in said 1 bolt, said bolt having an inclined perforation,

an arm passing through the end of the dog and being located in said inclined perforation l of the bolt.

3. In a device such as described, a suitable means for holding the watch, a suitable means for retaining the watch containing means in l its closed position, a combination alarm and lock consisting of a bell, a revolving pin attached to said bell, a spring adapted to revolve said pin, said bell having a recess, protrusions located on the inner side of the bell, la dog adapted to enter at its inner end the i recess of the bell, a pawl located on said dog l and adapted to engage the protrusions of the i bell, a clapper suitably located and adapted to come in contact with the protrusions of the f bell as the bell is revolved, a suitable means f for operating the dog.

4. In a device such as described, a bell having in its interior a recess, a suitable means for revolving said bell, protrusions located on the inner surface of the bell, a dog adapted to enter at its inner end the recess of the bell, a suitable means for operating said dog, a pawl located on said dog and adapted to engage the protrusions of the bell, a clapper suitably located and adapted to come in contact with the protrusions of the bell as the bell is revolved.
