LEONARD \VYSSINGER, OF LEI'lERSBURG, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO DANIEL O. GILBERT, OF'lVASl-IINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND.
,t/iusic rsar TURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 606,110, dated June 21, 1898.
I Application filed May 1'7, 1897. Serial No. 636,957. (No model.) I
T aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD WYssINe-ER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leitersburg, in the county of Vashington and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music Leaf Turners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to music-leaf turners and the object is to provide a simple, cheap, and effective device for this purpose.
To this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will hereinafter be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved music-leaf turner. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. at is a sectional view taken on the line a: x of Fig. 2.
1 represents a suitable base or frame provided with a rearwardly inclined arched brace 2, from the center of which two parallel spring-wire clips 3 4E extend to the base 1. The clips 3 and 4 are formed of a single piece of spring-wire, which is twisted about .midway of its lengtlr around the arch of the brace 2 and then brought vertically downward, its lower ends terminating in right-angular hori zontal toes 0. a, which are fixedto the upper face of the base 1 by means of the staples b b.
5 represents a vertical fiat spring secured to the base 1 to press the body of the musicbook against the brace or support 2.
7, 8, 9, and represent a series of parallel sheet-metal fingers fulcrumed at their lower ends on a common pivot 11, fixed in the base 1. 7, 8, 9, and 10 represent spiral retractile springs fixed at their outer ends to said base and at their inner ends to the pivoted fingers 10, 9, 8, and 7, respectively.
12, 13, 14, and represent a series of spring finger-levers fulcrumed in a bracket 16, fixed to the base, there being a'separate lever for each one of the pivoted fingers, and their u p- 5 5 per ends are each provided with an angular detent or too 17, which is adapted to engage and hold its respective finger in position and ready for operation. The spring finger-levers are made of spring-wire, with an eye formed end of each of the spring finger-levers terminates in a button 18,which is depressed to conveniently operate its respective lever.
When a single leaf or sheet of music is to be used, its left-hand marginal edge is inserted between the parallel clips 3 4t and the finger 7 is drawn over to the right and held in place by its finger-lever 12 andthe leaf of music turned to the right to rest in front of said finger 7. hen it is desired to turn the sheet or leaf, a simple pressure on the button end of the lever 12 releases it, and its appropriate spring 7 draws said finger 7 to-the left-hand side, at the same time carrying the leaf with it and reversing its position in the operation.
When a piece of music contained in a book is to be used, the book is opened at the proper place and secured in the clips 6-6 with its back resting against the arched brace 2. The
finger 7 is then drawn over and locked by its appropriate lever and the last page of the music laid over in front of it. The next lever S is then brought over and looked as before and the next leaf of music laid over that, and so on until all the pages to be used are consecutively arranged with a finger between each page. When the performer reaches the bottom of a page, he has only to touch the appropriate lever to release the next finger, which instantly flies over to the opposite side,
carrying the leaf or page with it and holding it open or fiat after it has carried it over.
Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as elearlyfall Within the scope of my invention Without departing from the spirit thereof.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatl claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
The improved lllllSlC lOZLf turner comprising the base 1, the arched spring-brace 2 fixed to said base, the vertical parallel spring-clips 3 and 1-, encompassing the arch of said brace 2 and fixed at their lower ends a a to said base by means of the staples b I), the lyreshaped spring-clips G G fixed to the outer ends of said base, parallel with each other and at right angles to said arched brace, in combination with the pivot-bolt l1, horizontally fixed in. the vertical front face of said base centrally beneath said arched brace, the series of plane sheet- metal fingers 7, 8, 9, :fulcrumed at their lower ends on said pivotbolt, the springs 7, S and 9 operatively connected to said. lingers, and the independent linger-levers 1:3, 1 Il-t, each one of which is formed with an eye 30 to receive the staple 21, by means of which it is fulcrumed to said base at a right angle to the path of said fingers 7, S, J and with an angular detent or toe 1.7 which projects lute the path of said lingers and having its cute r end provided with a button lH and the leaf? spring 5, the Whole constructed and arranged, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto al'lix: my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
