@uiten tstrs @anni @Hita IMPROVEMENT INV PORTABLE WASHS'IANDS,-
SAMUEL B. GUEIl-NSY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS'NASSIGNCR TO HIMSELF AND RICHARD S. THAIN, OF SIAME PLACE. Letters Patent No. 60,362, dated December 11, 1866.; antetlated November 26` 1866.
T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY VCONCIilR-IT:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. GUEnNsnr, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement i inl Portable Washstards'; and I do hereby make known 4 and declare that the following is a full, olea-r, andQexact description of' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters and'fignres marked thereonwhich.forin part of this speeication.
My said invention consists in attaching permanently an ornamental orlsuitable water tank or reservoir to a portable washstand, said reservoir being divided into two cop'artments, to A,contain both cold and hot water, suitable provisions being made in connection with the latter, by means of a recess beneath and a. suitable 'lamp or portableheating device, to heat the water in the said copartment of the reservoirnhen desired. My invention further consists in permanently fixing the wash bowl or basin in the stand, and in connecting the eseapespipe from said basin with a waste-water can or receptacle beneath in such a manner as to form a continuous passage into the said can, while the latter is readily detachable when needed to remove the waste water therefrom.
To enable those skilled in the art to understand how to construct and use my invention, I'n'ill proceed to describe the same with parteularity making reference in so doing to the aforesaid drawnga'in which- Figure l represents a front elevation of my invention.
Figure 2, a lfront View, with the water reservoir in section, and the doors open to showthe saidarrangement of the waste-Water can; and
lIi'iure 3. au end View or elevation of the same. i Q
Similar letters of reference in the different figures denote the same'parts of my invention.
A represents the main part of the washstand, provided with doors, as shown, into the upper part or top of which set the wash bowl, marked H, as shown, which is intended to be permanently attached thereto. Upon the rear part of the stand is permanently placed the reservoir, B, for water, being divided into two copartments, C D, the former for cold water, and the latter being constructed with a recess, E, beneath it, into which `a sliitable heater or lamp, F, may be placed to heat the water therein. G represents stop-cocks, through vwhich the water is drawn from the reservoir into `the basin. Irepresents awaste-wat'er pipe, leading from the basin down a short distance within the tube J, attached to the cover, K, of the waste-water can, L, thus forming a continuous pipe from the basin to said can. When it is desired toV remove the said can, L, from thewashstand, the cover is raised, the tube J, attached thereto, sliding up on the pipe I until the pin a enters the slot b, when, by a half or partial turn of said cover and tube, J, it is retained by said catch, a b, and `the cover being then free from the can, the latter can eadily be removed as desired. When the can is replaced, the cover may bereadjusted upon the same by the leerse of the opera-tion above described. N represents suitable racks or supports to hold brushes, combs, and other toilet articles. 1
Having described the construction and operation of my invention, I vrillproceed to specify particularly what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patient.
l. I claim, in combination with a portable washstand, a Water reservoir, permanently attached thereto, having two copartments, C D, 4and a recess, E, beneath one of them, substantially as and for the purposes specified. V
2. I claim, as arranged with the foregoing, the wash basin H, pipes I J, cover K, and can L, asand for the SAMUEL n. GUERNSEY.
