JESSE BARBER, OF WVYOMING, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALF TO T. J. JONES, OF SAME PLACE.
BUGGY-WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,605, dated March 15, 1898. Application filed June 12, 1897- Serial No. 640,501. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern..-
Be it known that I, JEssE BARBER, of Wyoming, in the county of Bath and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Vrenches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to buggy-wrenches; audits object is to provide an improved form of buggy-wrench in which the wheel and the axle-nut will be taken off together.
My invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of my invention, taken from the front thereof. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view.
The numeral 1 indicates the body of my device, which is provided with a pair of handles 2. A longitudinal opening 3, the central p0rtion of which has parallel sides, is formed in said body portion. A socket-wrench 4 is held securely on the body portion of my device at about the middle point thereof. Sliding blocks 5 are held to move in the parallelsided slot before mentioned. Thumb-latches 6 are formed upon said sliding blocks, being adapted to receive a wheel-hub between them. A spring 8 attached to said blocks normally holds the same in a closed position.
Vhen it is desired to operate my device, it is simply necessary to spread the sliding blocks by means of the thumb-latches, place the whole device over a Wheel, and use as an ordinary wrench. The spring will hold the clamps upon the sliding blocks tightly against the wheel-hub, so that when the nut is rotated by the socket-Wrench both the nut and the wheel will be removed together.
I thus provide a simple and efcient means for accomplishing the above-described object, which may be readily manufactured at low cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a buggy-wrench,the combination with a handle, of a socket-Wrench formed thereon, clamps held to slide upon said handle, and a spring normally urging said clamps together.
2. In a buggywrench, the combination with a handle having a longitudinal slot therein, of a socket-wrench formed upon said handle, clamps held to slide in said slot, thumb-latches formed upon said clamps and a spring normally urging said clamps together.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
