Be it known that l, WILLIAM N. COOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a mop head, more particularly to the class of mop heads, having a clamp for a mop cloth, on the end of a handle, and relates especially to a particular method of construction, and means of attaching a particular form of clamp, to the handle; and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of the various parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure. 1. represents a plan view partly in section of a device embodying my invention and Fig. 2. a cross section of the same on the line oc--oc of Fig. l.

A. represents the frame, collectively having the end 0,. and sides a'. a2. is irmly secured to the wood handle C. stationary, and has the movable jaw B. and its adjusting devices attached to and arranged substantially within it. The end portion, a. placed at right angles to the handle forms the stationary jaw: straight side portions a. a. passing through perforated opposite ends of the movable bar B. guide and support the same, and their curved extensions a2. a2. are pointed at their ends inwardly bent and firmly driven into the handle C. at some distance above the lower end as shown at as. as. and are firmly secured to said handle by the encompassing band or ferrule E. having lateral extensions e. e. for their accommodation, and placed around the end of said handle below said inwardly driven points; thereby forming a very eective and secure method of attachment. (curved portions of frame A. aforesaid) at some distance from the end of the handle, is perforated to permit the threaded end'of the stem b to move therein freely and forms a bearin g for the thumb nut, CZ.

In opening the mop to receive the mop cloth, the nut cl is turned in the proper direction thereby causing the movable jaw B. to recede from stationary jaw a and the threaded portion of the stem b to pass through the aperture in the bar D thc end of the stem approaching the lower end of the handle C which is solid: when the lower end of stem b has reached the end of handle G. the jaws of the mop are opened to their widest limit: hence the bar D must be placed at a distance in front of the end of handle C. about equal to the distance between the jaws a and B. when opened to their widest limit. Vhen the mop cloth is inserted between the jaws, they are closed, and the cloth held firmly between them by turning the nut d which engages the bar D as will be readily seen from inspection of the drawings: this frame secured to the handle in this manner is not easily detached and the whole forms a serviceable implement the utility of which is obvious.

The utility of the article is obvious.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
