JOHN F. HAYES, OF IRONTON, OHIO.
FORM FOR FLORISTS DESIGNS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 600,313, dated March 8, 1898.
Application filed September 14, 1897. Serial No. 651,616. (No model.)
.To on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. HAYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ironton, in the county of Lawrence and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Forms for Florists Designs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to forms for floral designs; and it consists, essentially, of a metal blank struck up into the proper contour and having throughout the body thereof a series of regularly-formed openings primarily constructed in the metal preferably before the device is arranged in the desired shape.
The invention further consists of the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to dispense with the use of tying means as much as possible and the regular arrangement of tin-foil or other devices, the parts of the form being simple and effective in their construction and operation, strong and durable, and comparatively inexpensive in the cost of manufacture.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a form embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Referring to the drawings, wherein similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the views, the numeral 1 designates a form for floral designs which in the present instance is shown in the form of a cross; but it will he understood that any contour or shape may be equally well employed and embodying the features of the invention.
The device as illustrated is made of continuous material-'5. a, material which is homogeneous so far as a connecting-web is concernedand at regular intervals the entire surface thereof is formed with a series of regularly-positioned openings 2.
As shown in Fig. 2, the present device has a surrounding flange 3, which with the main body of the form provides a receptacle for moss or other analogous material in which the stems of the flowers or other articles are inserted after being passed through the openings in the form. The surrounding flange may be struck up from a blank or be severed at parts and bent into shape and afterward secured, and the said flange is also formed with openings similar to those on the outer portions of the device, so that the design may be completely carried out.
This device forms a very cheap and bene ficial substitute for the wire forms heretofore employed and which necessitated the use of tying cords or threads to hold the tin-foil moss in position, and it will be understood that many minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts might be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least (1eparting from the nature or spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A form for floral and other designs having a body with a surrounding flange, the said body and flange being formed of a continu ous piece of material and regularly apertured, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN F. HAYES.
