UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESLEY S. ARMSTRONG, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BIRD-CAGE PROTECTOR.
SPECIPKCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,540, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed January Q2, 1886.
T all whom it may concern.-
Be it k nown that I, VVEsLEY S. ARMSTRONG, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protectors for Bird- Oages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relatesto protectors for birdcages; and it consists of ahoop or band surrounding the cage suspended and supported from the corners or top rim of the cage by means of adjustable or solid suspension-rods, said hoop or band having attached a lace or open-work textile sack or a wire-gauze skirt gathered together at the bottom or having a flat bottom, whereby the entire lower portion of the cage is enveloped. 1
The object of this invention is to providea suitable receptacle for catching and retaining the waste. from the cage, and prevent the same from being scattered about and littering the floor or surroundings of the cage.
The invent-ion consists in the combination, with the cage, of a suitable band havinga rc ceptacle surrounding the cage and supported thereby, and arranged to catch the waste, and which may be easily removed by slipping it down over the bottom for emptying the waste therefrom and again replaced, the samebeing constructed as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of around bird-cage, showing one form of my invention. Fig. 2 is aperspet-tive view of a square cage, showing another form of applying my invention. Figs. 3 and 4 are views of two forms of hoops or bands. Fig. 5 shows two styles of the suspension-rods.
Serial No. 189,406. (No, model.)
A represents a bird-cage, which may be of any of the well-known forms and style.
B is a band or hoop, which may be made of any suitable material, and may be made adjustable in size or diameter to adapt it to surround the cage at a suitable distance therefrom. Said hoop or band is suspended and supported upon the cage by means of rods O O, having a hook formed on each end, whereby they may be suspended to the upper rim or corners of the cage. The rods C may also be made adjustable as to their length by being made in two parts and united by bands, so as to enable them to be applied to cages of differ ent sizes.
D is a sack or skirt made of suitable lace or open-work textile fabric, and gathered together and tied beneath the cage, or if made of wire'cloth the bottom may be flat, as shown in Fig. 2. Either of these forms of receptacles for the waste from the cage is removable by loosening the hoop or band from the supporting-rods and lowering it down over the bottom of the cage for emptying or cleansing, and again replaced.
Having described myinvention, I claim The combination, with the cage A, ofa hoop or band, B, suspended from the cage by means of supporting-rods O O, and provided with a sack or skirt, D, enveloping the lower portion of the cage, and capable of removal and replacement. substantially as and for the purpose specified.
\VESLEY S. ARMSTRONG.
