Description

(No Modem I'. W. TOBEY. MIRROR, BIVOT AND ADJUSTER.
Patented Jan. 11,1898.
@m/Umane@ UNITED STATES PATENT EEicE.
FRED w. roeier, or GRAND Rheins, Mioi-neAN.
MIRRQR PIVOT ND ADJUSTER.
SPEIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 597,308, dated January 1 1, 1898.
` Application liled February 13, 1897. Serial No. 623,281. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beitknown thatl, FRED W. TOBEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Mirror Supporting and Adjusting Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for supporting swinging mirrors in articles of furniture; and the object of my invention is to provide novel, simple, efficient, and economical means for supporting the mirror and securely retaining it in any desired position. To aecomplish this object,my invention consists in the features of construction and in the combi nation or arrangementof parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l shows a rear elevation of a mirror supported in standards by means of my in vention, the left-hand side showing a portion of the standard and mirror-frame cut away in order to .illustrate the method of attaching the screw-bolt to the mirror-frame. Fig. 2 shows a horizontal sectional view through the standard and mirror-frame on a line of the screw-bolt, the same showing a modified form of the screw-bolt. Fig. 3 shows the screwbolt used in Fig. .1, the same being detached. Fig. Ll shows a plan view oi' adetached screwbolt of the forni shown in'Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 shows a rear elevation of the screw-bolt illustrated in Fig. 4.
Similar letters refe rte similar parts throughout the several views.
A represents the bolt, provided with the screw-thread G at one end and with an angularly-bent portion at the opposite end which is formed into a looped eye L.
B represents the retaining-nut, adapted to engage with the screw-thread C of the bolt A.
M represents the mirror, andN the mirrorframe.
In the example of my invention shown in the drawings in Figi 1 the loop L is preferably set into the side of the mirror-frame and held in position by the screw R. This screw or bolt R passes outwardly through an opening in the standard S and may or may not be provided with a washer lV. rPhe nut B, which is preferably made ornamental, is adapted to be tightened up so as to come in contact either with the standard S or the washer WV, thereby securing the mirror M in any required position. The standards S S may be attached to the toilet-case in any suitable manner.
- The bolt A is composed of a wire or rod which can be readily bent at one end to form the looped eye L,through which a screw, nail, or` bolt may be passed for the purpose of rigidly securing the inner end of the bolt to the mirror-frame, whereby the bolt becomes a rigid part of the mirror-frame and is susceptible of turning in the standard S. The'adjustin g-nut B, which engages the screw-thread at the endof the bolt, serves to adjust and retain the mirror-frame in any desired position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a mirror-fran1e, and a supporting-standard, of a bolt turning in the standard, and provided at its outer end with a screw-thread and at its inner end with an eye through which the screw passes to rigidly secure the inner end of the bolt to the mirror-frame, and a nut engaging the screwthread at the outer end of the bolt for adjusting 'and retaining the mirror-frame in any desired position, substantially as described. v
In Witness whereof lhave hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
FRED w. ToBEY. [n e] lVitnesses:
ARTHUR C. DENIsoN, CHRISTOPHER HoU'DELiNK.
