NEEDLE-BATH.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 595,069, dated December 7, 1897.

Application filed January 16,1897. Serial No. 619,466. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY D. NISBET, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needle- Baths, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

Hy invention has relation to improvements in needle-baths; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement, showing the bath-tub, however, in longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of a post or bracket which may be used for supporting the spraypipe shown in Fig. 2.

The object of my invention is to construct a needle-bath whereby a spray of water will be delivered to the bather in such manner as to cause said spray to circumscribe a maximum superficial area of the body of the person and to so construct said device as to operate upon every portion of the area so circumscribed.

A further object is to construct a needlebath which will be simple, readily attached in proximity to the tub, one which can be adjusted at a moments notice, and one possessing further and other advantages apparent from a detailed description of the invention, which is as follows:

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an ordinary bath-tub mounted in any prevailing mechanical manner, and 2 the faucet for the bath-water, (either hot or cold or combined.) Carried by the wall of the room, adjacent to the terminal vertical wall of the tub, is a plate 3, having outwardly-projecting eyes or loops at, which serve to guide and support in any adjusted position a pipe 5, a suitable butterfly bolt or screw 6, carried by one of the loops, serving to secure said pipe in place after once adjusted. The lower open end of the pipe 5 is adapted to be temporarily connected to the faucet by a hose-section 7, of rubber or similar flexible material. The upper extension of the pipe assumes the form of a helical or conical water-spraying coil 8, the axis of the cone being disposed at an angle to the pipe and substantially at right angles to the inclined end 9 of the tub, the apex of the cone being directed toward the tub, the coil being provided with perforations throughout the full length thereof, whereby when the water is turned on the needlespray thus formed will encompass and impinge upon a maximum surface of the tub, the said spray being directed against the bather and enveloping a major portion of his body when seated in the tub.

WVhere it is inconvenient to secure the pipe 5 and its coil to the wall of the bath-room, the same may be supported by and adjusted in a similar manner along a standard or post 10, placed adjacent to the tub in proper position.

The precise form or shape of the coil need not necessarily be adhered to, it being understood that slight changes as to form might be made without departing from the spirit of my invention; nor need it be a coil in the shape of a coiled pipe, but might be in the shape of a suitable terminal water-spraying chamber with openings in its walls so disposed as to sustain the spiral disposition here indicated or such a position as to direct the streams of water in the aggregate against the bather and within the limits of the tub, as here shown.

Having described my invention, what I claim is In a needle-bath, a suitable pipe open at one end and adapted to be temporarily connected to the supply-faucet of the tub, an upper extension or continuation of the pipe, said extension being in the form of a spiral coil with the base of the coil adjacent to the pipe and its apex removed from the pipe, and with the axis of the spiral (or cone) inclined at an angle to the general length of the pipe, the said spiral being provided with perforations for spraying the water against the tub and the bather seated therein, substantially as set forth.
