TED STATES PATENT onnro CHARLES A. MINNIE, OF WELLSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOB OF TWO-NINTIISiTO PETER SELTNER OE lvIcMECl-lEN, WEST VIRGINIA, AND TWO-NINTI-IS TO GEORGE OGDEN, OF WELLSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA.
BAT IXTURE.
provide a simple and comparatively inex- ,pensive shower device or attachment for bath-tubs designed to be connected to and supplied through the usual combination hot and cold water cook employed in such tubs,
' and having a showerring or nozzle which,
when occupying its operative position, overhangs the tub at a substantiallv central point.
A further object is to provide a device of the character mentioned the shower ringv of which normally occupies a lateral out-of-theway position with respect to the tub and is conveniently adjustable to operative position.
A still further object is to provide a shower attachment wherein the elevation of the shower ring or nozzle may be adjusted to adapt it for use either close to or at a considerable height above the head of the user, as desired. I v
.VVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the features of construction, arrangement of parts and combinations of elements which will hereinafter be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention applied to a bath-tub, a portion of the latter being illustrated in broken lines; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, showing the shower ring extended to approximately operative position; Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a portion of the invention shown in Fig. 1, showing the shower ring in operative position; Fig. 1 is a section on the lineH, Fig. 3, looking'upward; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged section taken on the line 55, Fig. 3. Referring to said drawings, in which like designating characters distinguish like parts Specification of Letters Patent.

and cold water cock 2 commonly employed for supplying water to such tubs, said pipe being tapped into the body of said cock between the hot and cold water connections 3 and 4 in order that it may be supplied with water of a temperature regulated by manipulation of the individual control valves of,
said cock. Coupled to the pipe 1 at a point beneath theroll 5 of the tub and extending around and concealed by said ro-llto a point substantially midway between the ends of, the'tub is a pipe- 6wl1ich connects with a vertically disposed pipe 7 of appropriate length. Attached to the upper end of said pipe 7 is a flexible tube 8 that connects at its opposite end to one end'of asuitabl'e conduit which, as herein shown, comprises coupled elbows 9 and 10, said elbow10 being connected to the horizontally disposed stationary member 11 of a flexible joint 12 formed on theend of a pipe 13 which has its overlying or overhanging the tub, as shown in Fig. 2, the ring and pipe 13 are swung forward and upward, this movement being permitted by the flexible joint 12, and a curved arm 15 which is mounted on a pivot 16 located at'a suitable point, ason the under side of the elbow 10, is then swung around ring 14 in its horizontal operative position horizontally to an underlying supporting,
position with respect to the pipe 13, as
shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4.
The elbow 9 or an equivalent portion of the conduit is mounted upon the upper end of a rod 17 which is telescoped within a vertically disposed tubular supporting member 18 so as to permit of vertical adjustment to regulate the height of the shower ring with respect to the tub, as shown in FigL 3, such adjustment beingpermitted ov the flexible tube 8. Aset-screw' "19 directed laterally through the tube 18 is adapted for, adjustment to impinge on the rod 17 for holding the latter in adjusted position. Said rod has a longitudinal groove 20 therein in which the point of the set-screw travels when said rod is raised or lowered, said groove and screw cooperating to prevent rotation of the rod which would swing the shower ring from its proper position in relation to the tub.
The tube 18 is rigidly supported by the pipe 7 at a point lateral with respect to the upper end of the latter, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
A flexible tube 21 having a spray nozzle 22 may, if desired, be attached to the pipe 7, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, a valve 23 being provided for controlling the flow of water through said tube. As is obvious,
however, this spray attachment does not con stitute a necessary adjunct.
A valve 24: is provided for controlling the flow of water to the shower ring. A valve 25 is provided in the hot and cold water cock 2, the same being designed to be closed when the shower ring 14 or the spray 22 is in use.
It will be apparent that a large spray nozzle or any of various forms of spray or shower attachments may be substituted for the shower ring 14 herein shown. It will also be obvious that the invention is readily applicable to bath tubs not having the roll or flange 5, in which case the pipe 6 may be arranged to occupy any preferred position.
What is claimed is 1. A shower fixture for bath tubs, comprising an upright pipe disposed laterally of the tub at a point intermediate the ends of the latter and having connection at its lower end with a source of water supply, a supporting member carried by said pipe, a conduit mounted on said member, a tube providing communication between said pipe and one end of said conduit, a second pipe having a flexible joint connection with the opposite end of said conduit, a shower ring carried by said second pipe and normally occupying suspended inoperative position, and
pivoted means for supporting said ring in a horizontal position.
2. A shower fixture for bath tubs, comprising an upright pipe disposed laterally of the tub at a point intermediate the ends of the latter and having connection at its lower end with a source of water supply, a supporting member carried by said pipe, a conduit mounted on said member, a tubeproviding communication between said pipe and one end of said conduit, a second pipe having a flexible joint connection with the opposite end of said conduit, a shower ring carried by said second pipe and normally occupying suspended inoperative position, a pivoted arm carried by said conduit adapted to be moved into supporting relation to said second pipe for holding said ring in operative position.
3. A shower fixture for bath tubs, comprising an upright pipe disposed laterally of the tub at point intermediate the ends of the latter and having connection at its lower end with a source of water supply, a tubular upright supporting member carried by said pipe, a vertically adjustable rod disposed in telescopic relation to said supporting member, a conduit mounted on said rod, a flexible tube providing communication between said pipe and one end of said conduit, a second pipe having a flexible joint connection with the opposite end or" said conduit, a shower ring carried by said second pipe and normally occupying suspended inoperative position, and means for support ing said second pipe in a horizontal position.

A shower fixture for bath tubs, com prising an upright pipe disposed laterally of the tub at a point intermediate the ends of the latter and having connection at its lower end with a source of water supply, a tubular upright supporting member carried by said pipe, a vertically adjustable rod disposed in telescopic relation to said supporting member, a. conduit mounted on said rod, a flexible tube providing communication be tween said pipe and one end of said conduit,
a second pipe having a flexible joint connection with the opposite end of said conduit, a shower ring carried by said second pipe and normally occupying suspended inoperative position, and a pivoted arm adapted to be moved into supporting relation to said second pipe for holding said ring in operative position.
5. A shower fixture for bath tubs, comprising, in combination with a combination hot and cold water cock, an upright pipe dis osed laterally of the tub at a point intermediate the ends of the latter and having connection at its lower end with said cock between the valves of the latter, a supporting member carried by said pipe, a conduit mounted on said member, a tube providing communication between said pipe and one end of said conduit, a second pipe having a flexible joint connection with the opposite end of said conduit, a shower ring carried by said second pipe and normally occupying suspended inoperative position, and pivoted means for supporting said ring in a horizontal position.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
