SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent No. 593,321, dated November 9, 1897.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUST H. CRONE- MEYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Bicycles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to supports for bicycles; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which is adapted to support a bicycle in an upright position when not in use.

The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowln g specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of the frame of a bicycle and of the drive-Wheel,

In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown the drive-wheel of a bicycle or a portion thereof at 5, and also a part of the frame, said part of the frame consisting of the horizontal bars 6, the upright rod or bar 7, and the rear upright rods or bars 8, and the horizontal rods or bars 6 and the upright bar 7 are connected at the point where they form the support of the pedalshaft 9 and the sprocket-wheel 10, mounted thereon, and in the practice of my invention I provide a support which consists of a clamp or band 11, which is mounted upon or secured to the upright rod or bar 7, near the lower end thereof, and to which is pivotally secured two legs 12, the legs 12 being connected with the band 11 in the manner of a pair of shears or tongs, as shown at 13, and said legs are also each inwardly curved at 14 and then carried outwardly and downwardly, as shown at 15, and each of said legs at its lower end is provided with oppositely-curved prongs or toes 16, and one of said legs is provided with a loop or eye at 17, to which a chain 18 is secured, and said chain 18 is adapted to be connected with a similarloop or eye 19, formed on or secured to the opposite leg, and the chain is adapted to be locked to said loop or eye 19 by an ordinary padlock 20 or in any preferred way.

Secured to the upper part of the upright rod 7 is another clamp or band 21, having oppositely-projecting hooks 22 secured thereto or formed thereon, and the lower parts of said legs 12 are adapted when the support is not in use to be held by the spring action thereof between said prongs or projections, each of said legs being so connected with the band 11 that it may be folded or turned upwardly and connected with said hooks or projections 22, and when the parts are in thisposition the chain 18 may be passed around the upright rod 7.

This device will hold the bicycle firmly in an upright position and may be connected with or detached from the frame thereof whenever desired, and the same is also comparatively inexpensive.

It will be understood that the lower ends of the legs 15 are adapted to rest upon the ground, and when in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 are substantially level with the bottom of the wheel, and before locking the chain 18 in position or connecting the legs 12 therebyone of the pedal-cranks is raised into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the chain 18is passed crosswise beneath the same, and in this position of the parts the bicycle is also looked.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a bicyclesupport, consisting of a clamp 11, which is mounted on the bar 7 near the lower end, two
