Description
NITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JOSEPH BRADDOCK, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVED VARNISH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,174, dated October 30, 1866.
Take of spirits of turpentine five ounces,
add one and one-half ounce of gum asphaltum, and boil over fire until dissolved; then add two drains of carriage-varnish and two ounces of lard-oil, or a like quantity of benzine. The last two ingredients are introduced alternatively in reference to the use to which the combination varnish is to be applied. The oil is used where the varnish is intended to be applied to leather, canvas, 8250., and the benzineis substituted for the oil when it is intended to apply the varnish to wood, metals, 85c.
The varnish is to be applied with a brush to any substance that may require it in the ordinary way, and it must be renewed as required.
What I claim as my invention, and desir to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combination varnish compounded from the ingredients named, or their chemical equivalents, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
