Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcEC O. O. MCOUNE, OF DARBY CREEK, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOOL-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,860, dated October 1G, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, O. C. MCGUNE, of Darby Creek, in the county of Madison and Sta-te of Ohio, have invented anew aud Im proved Wool- 'lyer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide in a cheap and simple manner a device by which the iieeces of wool after it is shorn may be closely pressed and tied in a small space, and consists in the construction ot' a rectangular frame supported by suitable posts of proper height.
This invention consists more particularly in the employment of levers, in combination with a strap and curved teeth, in such a manner that the fleece ot' wool is acted upon by a rolling pressure and brought into a very small compass and held until tied by cords, when it can be instantly released from the pressure and removed from the machine, thus affording a quick and easy method ot' pressing wool and tying the same.
To enable others skilled in the'art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 is a top-plan view of my improved wooltyer. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional elevation of the same from the line X X. Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each ofthe figures.
A is a rectangular frame, made of wood and of any convenient dimensions, mounted upon and supported by suitable posts B. Upon the top of the said frame A are two leaves, C G, hung by hinges at a a a a, so that they may be turned up so as to form a box, in which the ieece of wool is placed when tied.
D is a wide strap of leather or other proper material, provided with slots running from end to end, one end of the said strap being fastened to the front end ot' the table, and the other end is provided with a D-ring, E. The
slots in the said strap D are for the purpose of passing the cord or twine through with which the ieece is tied.
D is a lever located under the leaves ot' the table and immediately under the ends of the posts F F, the ends ot' which catch into notches in the said leverl) and held in a vertical position.
G is another lever, secured by a pivot-bolt, e, to the back post, and extends to the front side of the table, and allowed to move freely up and down in the staple I. To this lever Gr is attached, by a cord, a weight, J. To this lever is also attached a hook, K, to which the D-ring in the strap D is attached when a fleece is to be pressed and tied.
L is a roller placed at the end ot' the table, to which slotted curved teeth b b b are attached. To the roller L is also attached a lever, O, that is connected, by a cord or otherwise, to the lever Gr.
The operation consists in laying the tleece ot' wool in the box and bringing the strap D over and attaching the D-ring to the hook K in the lever G; then, by pressing down upon the end of the lever G, the teeth b are drawn down upon the fleece, also the strap at the same time, when the iieecc is tied by the cords S S S.`
Having thus described my invention, what.V I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The roller L, provided with the slotted teeth b, for the purpose of tying wool, substantially as herein described.
2. The lever G, in combination with the roller L, lever O, and slotted curved teeth b, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. The strap D, in combination with the roller L and teeth b, substantially as herein set forth.
O. C. MCUUNE.
