UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES ROBERT ADAMS, OF BEVIER, MISSOURI.
PEN-EXTRACTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 588,308, dated August 17, 1897. Application filed January 12, 1897. Serial N0. 618,943- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES ROBERT ADAMS, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Bevier, in the county of Macon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Extractors, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pen-extractin g devices, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class by means of which the pen may be extracted from the holder without applying the fingers thereto.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, ofwhich the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure lis aplan View of my improved penextractor and showing the method of its operation; Fig. 2, an edge view thereof, and Fig. 3 a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings forming part of this specification the separate parts of my improvement are designated by numerals of reference throughout the several views, and in the practice of my invention I provide a pen-extractor which consists of two disks or platesv 5 and 6, which are pivotally connected at 7, the pivotal connection-being arranged adjacent to one side of the disks or plates. One of said disks or plates is preferably thicker than the other and is provided with two radial grooves 8, which extend from or near the center to the outer edge thereof, and the other disk or plate is provided with corresponding radial ribs 9, which are adapted to enter said grooves.
The disks or plates 5 and 6 are made of any desired material, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof. 7 x
It will be understood that a pen may be inserted between the disks or plates, and in pracmy invention is not limited to the exact form of the disks or plates, and the same may be circular or of any other preferred form.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article'of manufacture, a pen-extractor, consisting of two disks or plates 5 and 6, pivotally connected together at 7, by a pin or the like, said pin being longer than the combined thickness of the disks and provided at its upper and lower ends with heads, the lower disk being provided with two radial grooves extending from or near the center to the outer edge thereof and the upper disk being provided with ribs adapted to fill said grooves, said disks being combined substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 22d day of December, 1896.
JAMES ROBERT ADAMS.
