IMPROVEMENT IN SH OVEL-PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,581, dated October 9, 1866.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JESSE O. BOYD, of Milroy, in the county of ltush and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovel-Flows and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

In the annexed drawings, A A represent two beams, which are secured a suitable distance apart and attached to the horizontal beam 0 by means of swivels H H. At the rear end of each of said beams are small uprights, to which are secured the shovels D D.

E E are suitable handles, which are supported by the extended portions of the plowuprights, and are secured by the rods Z) b, which pass obliquely from the lower end of the handles through the beams A and upright.

B represents a beam, which is stationarily secured to the beam 0 and placed between the beams A A. This beam. B extends farther to the rear than the beams A A, and is also provided with a shovel.

F F are two straight metal bars provided with slots, as shown, near their inner ends, and secured to the beams A A. The inner ends of these bars are connected to the beam B by means of the set-screw t, and can be adjusted so that the beams A A will be near or far from beam B, as desired.

K represents the singletree, which is attached to the horizontal beam O and the hoop I.

In the operation of this shovel-plow, it will be seen that the beams A A, turning upon their swivels H H, can be forced near the beam B by means of the slotted bars F F, and there firmly secured by means of the set-screw it, so that the shovels D may be worked near each other.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The beams A A, in combination with the upright shovels and handles, when connected to the beam 0 by means of the swivels H H and attached tothe beam B by slotted bars F F and set-screw t, arranged substantially as specified.
