SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,645, dated June 15, 1897. Application filed December 14, 1896i. Serial No. 615,563. (No model.)

Be it known that I, JOHAN LUDWIG WAL- l DEMAR OLSEN, baker, a citizen of the Kingdom of Denmark, residing in Copenhagen, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baking-Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in baking ovens, and especially to those where the baking takes place in chalnbers that are heated from the outside by means of a fireplace located in the bottom of the oven.
To the baking-oven shown in the accompanying drawings the baking-chambers are surrounded by iiues which, after the firing has ceased, still receive heat enough from the fireplace in the bottom of the oven to permit several consecutive bakings without any new firing being necessary.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a vertical longitudinal section of the oven. Fig. 2 is a vertical section transversely thereto. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the oven, and Fig. 4t is an enlarged detail view of the movable tray.
In order to increase the baking capacity of the oven, the fireplace is provided with an arched top that serves to store part of the heat developed in the iireplace and acts as a heat-accumulator. The products of combustion pass from below upward through the ilues surrounding the baking-chambersviz., through the iiues between these chambers-and issue from the oven through the chimney, which is placed on a level with the fireplace,
In the accompanying drawings iiring is shown as being eifected by means of gas, but of course any other suitable fuel may be used. The products of combustion ascending through ilues M in the front part of the oven pass over and then behind the baking-chambers A A to the outlet K under the iireplace.
In order, during the frequent taking out of the baked bread and introducing the unbaked, to prevent the loss of too much heat from the fines surrounding the baking-chambers and also to avoid ,part of the products of combustion escaping from the fines in the front part of the oven, the following construction is employed:
The tray B, upon which the bread is placed,
is made movable, so that it can be pulled out of the baking-chamber A and again pushed into 4the same. Care must be taken, however, that when the tray is pulled out it does not intercept the ascending of the products of combustion through the vertical iiue in the front part of the oven, and it is further of importance that when the tray is completely pushed in there should be absolutely no communication between the line M and the outer air, as also between the said flue M and the baking-chamber.
Vith the foregoing object in view a fluepiece F, either of masonry or any other suitable material, is placed on the front part of the movable tray. When -the tray is completely pushed into its place, this flue-piece exactly fits into the mouth of the oven in such a manner that its walls cut off the communication between the outer air and t-he flue M, as also the communication between this latter flue and the baking-chamber, while at the same time the opening H in the flue-piece forms a communication between the parts of the flue M lying above 'and below the mouth of the oven.
The rear part of the movable tray is furthermore provided with a vertical closingplate G of such a shape and size that when the tray is pulled quite out this plate closes the mouth of the oven and thus prevents the heat and the products of combustion from escaping during the time necessary for iilling the tray with fresh material to be baked. During that time the ascending products of combustion have free passage through the iiue M, s0 that the ring need not be discontinued.
As shown in Fig. fl, the tray B can be supported by small undercarriages O, provided with wheels D, that can move along rails E.
Other suitable means may of course also be employed for making the movement of the tray easy.
The above-mentioned flue-piece F, instead of being placed upon the movable tray and in firm connection with same, can be arranged independently thereof. In this case the luepiece is pulled out first and thereafter the ICO tray. This latter arrangement may be of importanoe in baking-ovens of large dimensions Where the bread placed upon the tray is of a Considerable Weight.
Above the baking-Chamber with the movable tray another baking-chamber A may be arranged, as shown on the drawings, which chamber may be With or Without a movable tray. The spaees between the baking-Chaim bers and underneath the lower Chamber are connected with the flue in the front part of the oven.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl.. The Combination, with a baking-oven, of a .movable tray arranged in the baking-Chamber, and a flue-piece for closing the mouth of the baking chamber, substantially as set forth.
