SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 584,215, dated June 8, 1897'.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERBERT I-I. FREEMAN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Pierre, in the county of Hughes and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Cleaners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in bottle-cleaners; and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and effective device for this purpose, and particularly for reaching and cleaning the inside of the shoulder below the neck.

To this end the novelty consists in the con struction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The figure in the drawing is a perspective view of a bottle-cleaner embodying my invention.

1 represents the wire shank, formed with a handle 2 and integral guide-eye 3. The lower end of this shank is flattened out to form a lateral lug 4, which receives the eye 5 of the radial arm 6, the free end of which is formed with a jaw 7, in which is secured the usual swab or brush. (Not shown.) An

integral ear 8 on the arm 6 receives the lower end 9 of the rod 10, which passes through the guide-eye 3 and terminates in the circular handle 12.

In operating my improved bottle-cleaner the middle finger is inserted through a loop in the handle 2 and the first or index finger through the handle 12 in the rod 10, which may then be manipulated to reach every part of the bottle, and the cleaner is then revolved in the usual manner. The lug 12 permits the free vertical movement of the swab-holder and at the same time prevents any lateral movement of the arm on the shank.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not de sire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s

A bottle-cleaner, comprising the shank 1, provided with the integral guide-eye 3 and lateral lug 4, the swab-arm 6 pivoted thereto and provided with the ear 8,'in combination with the rod 10 pivoted to the arm 6, its upper end passing through the guide-eye 3 and terminating in the handle 12, substantially as shown and described.
