ihvrrno Srn'rns PATENT JOIIN LINES, OF IVATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE SCOVILL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
WATER-BAG NOZZLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 584,117, dated June 8, 1 897.
Application filed July 20, 1896- To (AZ/l 1.0710722. 2125 may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LIN-Es, of lVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anewlmprove- 5 ment in ater-Bag Nozzles and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,
l0 and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure l, a View in side elevation of a nozzlc constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a view thereof in vertical contral section on the line a b of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a view thereof in horizontal section on the line 0 d of Fig. 1; Fig. 4, a view of one of the modified forms which the invention may assume.
My invention relates to an improvement in nozzles for use in conjunction with water bags, bottles, and kindred vessels, the object being to produce at a lou cost for manufacture a simple, durable, and effective device of workman-like and attractive appearance.
With these ends in view my invention consists in a watenbag nozzle having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown I form the body A of the nozzle from a single piece of sheet metal which is drawn or struck, as may be required, to bring the blank into the required shape. The inner or lower end of the said body is open, while its upper or outer end is closed and furnished with an overhanging flange A, which is larger in diameter than the said body. To adapt the nozzle to be secured within the mouth of the bag, bottle, or other vessel, the said body has screw-threads A rolled into its waist or middle portion, or they may be cut into it, as will be hereinafter described. The said body is furnished with a nipple, consisting of a tube the lower end of which is passed through and firmly secured in a central opening a, formed Serial No. 599,313. [No model.)
in the closed outer end of the body, into which the tube opens. The outer portion of the nipple is reduced in diameter or necked, as at B, to form a retaining-head B which provides for the retention of the rubber tube which is applied to the nipple. To facilitate the application to and removal of the nozzle from a bag or bottle, it is provided with two straight wing-like finger-pieces C C, located opposite each other and formed integral with an annular band. C, adapted in diameter to snugly embrace the lower end of the nipple B, the said wings and band being rigidly secured in place by soldering, nickeling, or in any other way which secures it to the said body or nipple, or both.
In Fig. 40f the drawings the body is shown as formed from a single piece of sheet metal, but instead of having its threads A rolled into it they are cut in an annular rib A struck outward from the waist or middle portion of the body.
I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but hold myself atliberty to make such alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A water-bag nozzle having a sheet-metal body open at its inner end and having its outer end closed and formed with an integral 8o overhanging flange, a tubular nipple set into and secured within the closed outer end of the said body, and wing-like finger-pieces formed integral with a central band which closely encircles the inner portion of the said nipple and is rigidly connected with one or both of the other members of the nozzle.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
