To all whom it may concerm Be it known that l, HALsEY W. TAYLOR, of l 'i arrcn, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful ln'iprovements in Drinking A tachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The primary object of my inventioniis to provide a simple and improved sanitary drinking attachment which may be applied to faucets in general use without interfering with the ordinary use of such faucets.

A further object is to enable the drinking attachment to occupy an upright position regardless of the angle at which the faucet may be placed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective. Fig. 2- is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional view on line 2-2, Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a by-pipe which is bent upwardly to form an outlet nozzle 2. At its lower end this pipe has a T-joint 3 to which it is swiveled so that the pipe and the joint may be relatively adjusted to insure the nozzle end being upright. This T-joint is designed to be socured to an ordinary hose-bib faucet l by s at a coupling which is shown in the form of a female-nut 5.

Within pipe 1 is a valve or deflector 6 which normally leaves the outlet from the faucet unobstructed, but when projected into the path of such outlet will deflect the flow or a substantial portion thereofinto the bypipe from which it will be discharged at the nozzle. This valve is shownas secured on one end ot a push rod 7 within pipe 1, the other end of the rod project-ing outwardly and having a button 8 by which the rod may be readily manipulated to overcome the ten:

15 designates a cup or basin which incloscs the nozzle for catching waste water and discharging it by means of an outlet pipe 16 below the valve operating rod to prevent splashin In operation, the device is readily coupled to an ordinary hose-bib faucet. \Vhen it is desired to use the fountain, the flow of water from the faucet is intercepted, according to the means shown, by pushing the rod 7 inwardly against the tension of the spring 9, thereby projecting valve 6 into the line of passage of the water which being deflected will flow through the by-pipc into the nozzle. When pressure is removed from the rod the spring will return the valve to its normal position. If the faucet is set on an angle the by-pipe may. be turned relatively to the coupling 'so that the nozzle will always occupy an upright position.

Changes may-be made without departing from the scope of my invention.

I claim as my invention:

[1. As an article of manufacture, ing attachment comprising .a nozzle having at one end a port at rightangles to such end for the flow of water from a faucet, means carried at such end for detachably connecting the nozzle to a faucet, and a valve also carried by said nozzle and capable of being projected into said port for deflecting any portion of the water therefrom into said nozzle, and means for normally holding said valve retracted from said port. 7

2. As an article of manufacture, a drink ing attachment comprising a pipe having at its outer end a nozzle and at its inner end a port at right'angles thereto, means carried by said inner end for detachably connecting the pipe to a faucet, a valve located in said pipe, a push rod for said valve by which the latter may be projected into said port for deflecting any portion of the water from said port into said nozzle, and a spring for normally holding said valve retracted.

4. As an article of manufacture, a drinking attachment comprising a pipe having a nozzle at its outer end, a Joint to which the inner end of said pipe is revolubly connected, said joint having a port at right angles to said pipe, means for detachably connecting said joint to a faucet, a valve located in said joint and having a rod projecting through and out of said pipe, said Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Washington, D.
