GEORGE O. KOESTER, OF PATERSON, NEV JERSEY.
Ni UCILAG E-BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION' forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,043, dated J une 8, 1897'. Application nea september 17,1896. serrano. 606,179. on man.;
To @ZZ when?, it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. KOESTER, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Mucilagedotties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts Wherever found throughout the several views.
This invention relates to mucilage-bottles; and the object thereof is to provide an irnproved device of this class which is so constructed that the mucilage does not come in cont-act with the neck of the bottle, afurther object being to provide a mucilage-bottle with an enlarged neck and a central vertical tubular or hollow attachment having side slots or openings and into Which the brush is inserted, said attachment being adapted to serve as means for removing the surplus mucilage from the brush; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described. and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure lis a central vertical section of my improved 1nucilagebottle; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 thereof with the brush removed; Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. l, showing a modified form of construction; Fig. 4, a section on the line 4 l thereof, and Fig. 5 a sectional view of another modification.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle A, the body portion of which may be of any desired form, but which is preferably conical, as shown in Fig. l, and said bottle is provided with an enlarged neck B, the upper end of which is flared outwardly or bellshaped in form, as shown at C, and the bot tom of the bottleis provided centrally thereof with an upwardly-directed cylindrical projection D, on Which is mounted a tubular attachment E, the lower end of which is preferably slightly larger than the upper end, and said lower end of the attachment E is in practice removably mounted on the cen per end of the tubular attachment.
tral upwardly-directed cylindrical extension D, and the sides thereof are provided with a plurality of vertical slots F, which, as shown in the drawings, are four in number, and said slots are triangular in form, the base thereof being directed downwardly and carried almost to the top of the attachment E, in which they are formed. I also provide a cap or cover G, which may be composed of any desired material, (cork or similar material being preferred.) and the under side of the perimeter thereof is provided with an annular groove or cut-away port-ion H, whereby it is adapted to conform to the shape of the flaring or bell-shaped portion C of the neck B, and passing centrally therethrough is the handle K of the brush L.
The handle K is preferably adjustable in the cap or cover G, being held therein by friction, and when the said cap or cover is placed in position the brush L enters the tubular attachment E, and in removing the brush for use the surplus mucilage thereon is removed by drawing the brush through one of the slots F or the upper end thereof, and said surplus mucilage runs back into the bottle, or the brush maybe wiped on the up- The said tubular attachment E is of such length that the upper end thereof extends to about the smallest portion of the neck B and when in position is arranged concentrically thereof, and it Will thus be seen that the mucilage does not come in contact with the said neck, and the danger of the neck becoming clogged and the bottle useless by reason of the muoilage drying thereon is avoided.
It will also be understood that the attachment E may be removed and the upper end thereof cleaned Whenever desired, and in Figs. 3 and et I have shown a modified form of construction in which the bottle A is contracted at its lower end, as shown at M, the contracted portion being oblong in form, and said contracted portion is provided centrally With a circular tubular portion in., at each side of which are extensions m2, and below the contracted portion is a circular chamber m3, formed in an enlarged base O. In this form of construction the lower end of the tube E is provided at its opposite sides with outwardly-directed Wings e, and thc upper end ICO - top thereof,` with a lug or projection e2, and a' of said tube is provided on onevside, near the similar lug or projection b is formed on the neck B of the bottle,v vandin vinserting said tube into positionthe Wings e are turned so thatv they Will pass through ythev side exten-y sions m2 on the reduced portion 'm of the neck,
and when said tube has been inserted and vsaid Wings vhave passed through saidv exten sions the tube is turned half-wayround,v sor that ythe Wings E will kpass beneath the upper side Walls of the chambers m3, as clearly shown in Figs.k 8 and 4; and the object of the lugs or projections @and h iste vprovide means for indicating thedirection in ywhich to turn said tube in orderto insertor remove it, said tube being locked in position when said lugs c2 and are in line andv being unlocked and ready to be removed when thelug e2 is turned at right angles to the lug b. lnthis forni ot construction the neck B is slightly smaller than the7 neck shown in Fig. l, and thecap ror cover vGf is of slightly different vforinyliiut the con struction and operation vof rthese parts,v
in the main 7 are substantially the' same, and
vthe operationwill be similar to that hereinbefore described, and it is evident that other means maybe provided for holding the tube E in position viwithout departing from the spirit of my invent-ion cr sacricing its adv vantages.
In Fig. 5 I have vshown another modificai 'ion oi' the removable tube E, and this form of v v vtube is substantially the saine as that shownk in Fig. 1, but the openings F are formed trans- -f versely of the'sides thereof, and. beloweach of said openings is a downwardly-directed plate or partial partition O, and in practice the brush is passed downwardly through the tube, the same as in Fig. l, and in the Withdrawal thereof ithe Surplus inncilage is removed therefrom bythe inwardly and downwardly directed ilanges or partition-plates O. any desired numbery ofv which vnnay be einployed, and vin thisv form of construction it v Willbe understood that kthe rnucilage enters f the tube E through the transverse openings F, in the sides thereof. v v v v l-Iaving fully described myk invention, I claimasr newand desire to secure Patent-n f by Letters f il'. A mucilage-bottle provided with aneir rlarged neck,v and a, central tubular attach-v nient Whichis detachably connected with the bottom thereof,` and which projects upwardlyv` 3 intoy the neck, vsaid attachment being providedwithvertical slots or openings,and being adapted to receive the brush, substantially as shown and described.
and described.
' vIn testimony that: Iv claim the foregoing as my invention I have'signed my nain e, in pres ence of the subscribin gwitnesses, this 5th day of SepteinberyhSQG; i f y v GEORGE C. KOESTER.
