A. H. BRUNING.
KEYPASTENER.
No. 583,669. Patented June 1,1897.
WITNESSES I nggr 4%. hi5 2M A TTORNEYS UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH l-I. BRUNING, OF PASSAIO, NEW JERSEY.
KEY-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 583,669, dated June 1, 1897.
Application filed August 27,1896. Serial No. 604,057. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPH H. BRUNIN G, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Passaic, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to improvements in key-fasteners, the object thereof being to supply an article of this character which will effectually prevent external tampering with a key when the same is properly placed within a lock, whereby the key cannot be pushed out or revolved without removing the fastener therefrom.
The device is simple in construction, inexpensive, and adapted for use in combination with any ordinary key.
The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a per-. spective view of my improved key-fastener, showing the same attached to a door an cl connected with the head of a key; and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. r
In the practice of my invention I provide, primarily, a plate A, which has a bearing a, projected outwardly from the face thereof. This said bearing comprises two plates (1. Hinged between these two said plates'by means of a pin b is a swinging rod B, the outer end of which rod is provided with a longitudinal slot B, adapted for fitting over the head (1 of any suitable key D. As a means for locking this said slotted portion to the head of the key the rod is further supplied with two clamping-arms E, which have projecting fingers e, forming part thereof. These said arms are in tight frictional engagement with each other, and they are secured to the outer end of the rod E by means of a rivet e.
In the operation of the device the plate A I is secured to the face of a door, adjacent to the keyhole thereof, by means of screws M. The key is then turned within the lock until its head portion is at right angles with the keyhole. The slotted end of the rod B is then passed over the head of the key, and the fingers e of the arms E are. forced into engagement therewith and into tight frictional con I am entitled to slight variations of structural detail.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A key-fastener, comprising a swinging rod pivotally secured to a plate and having a longitudinal slot in the free end thereof, said slot beingadapted to admit a key-head therein, and two hinged arms with fingers upon the ends thereof pivoted in the outer end of said slot for engaging the head of a key, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 19th day of August,-1896.
