Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PHILIP TUCKER, OF GUNDERSCN, MONTANA.
CLOTHES AND HAT RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 583,100, dated May 25, 1897.
Ap lication filed. November 15, 1895. Serial No. 569,061. (No model.)
, Montana, have invented a new and useful Clothes and Hat Rack, of which the following is a specification.
The special object of the invention is to enable garments to be suspended by any part thereof until the clamp is released without danger of being knocked ofi or otherwise detached by accident.
The drawing is a side elevation of my rack provided with a back attachable to a wall or other suitable support.
In the drawing, A C D represent three integral arms adapted to be turned on a shaft E, supported on projections extending out from the back at right angles thereto. The arms C D are diametrically opposite to each other on the shaft E and preferably at nearly a right angle to the clamp-arm A, the latter being made of such a length as to allow the curved end to come in contact with the rod 13 or the back of the rack. The arms C D are thus held fixedly in position for use. Each of these arms is constructed with an end curvature or simply with an end knob or otherwise shaped to suit the fancy of the manufacturer.
B is a rod or roller over which articles may be thrown and held by the curved or camshaped end of the arm A against the back or the said rod, while a loop on a coat or other garment may be hung on the end of the arm D or on that of the arm C, the latter being speciallyadapted to hold a hat or cap.
Having thus described all that is necessary to afull understanding of the invention, What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In a wall-bracket rack, the combination with the back thereof and the rod B, of the arms C D, shaft E, and clamp-arm A, the two arms C being diametrically opposite to each other and nearly at right angles to the arm A which is of sufficient length for contact with said back or rod as shown and described.
PHILIP TUCKER.
