UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN JONES GREELY, OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO LEON DION, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TROUSERS-STRETCH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,418, dated May 11, 1897.
Application filed July 18,1896; Serial No. 599,599. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN J ONES GREE- LY, of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Trousers-Stretcher, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is an elevation of my improved trousers-stretcher.
My invention is a trousers-stretcher made up of a length of Wire bent upward near-its middle to form a loop and bent downward and then upward near its ends to form springhooks to engage with the trousers-leg.
In the drawing I have shown myimproved stretcher made up of a length of wire bent upward near its middle into a loop 0 and bent downward at b b and then upward and outward at o c to form the spring-hooks B B on the ends of the arms A A, The coil near the middle of the Wire serves as a spring and also as a loop by which the trousers-stretcher may be hung up. The spring-hooks B B, together with the spring 0, combine to prevent the trousers-stretcher from becoming accidentally disengaged from the trousers, the spring-hooks B B having a spring in themselves independent of the spring 0, so that .When the free ends of the hooks B B are placed in the creases of the trousers their spring prevents them from becoming accidentally disengaged and also stretches the trousers more effectively than in trousersstretchers where the only spring is that given by the loop 0. 4
When my trousers-stretcher is to be used, the spring formed by the loop 0 is compressed to bring the hooks B B inside the trousers-leg. The hooks B B are then placed in the creases in the trousers-leg, the free ends of the hooks being slightly above the bottom of the trousers. The spring 0 is then released, and it, together with the spring-hooks B B, serves to stretch the trousers.
I am aware of the patent to Traut, No. 442,926, dated December 16, 1890, and disclaim all shown therein, for my trousersstretcher differs radically in operation from the trousers-stretcher shown in that patent.
l/Vhat I claim as my invention is- The trousers-stretcher above described consisting of a resilient wire bent at its middle to form spring 0 and horizontally-extending arms A A, said arms being bent downward and then upward at their ends to form springhooks B B.
