M, B. PARRY. WEARING APPAREL SUPPORT- No. 582,812. Patented May 11, 1897.
Inuawtan UNITED STATES PATENT EmcE,
MAME BARBERO PARRY, OF GALESBURG, ILLINOIS.
WEARING-APPAREL SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 582,312, dated May 11, 1897.
Application filed July 2, 1896.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, MAME BARBERO PARRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in earing-Apparel Supports; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wearing-apparel supports, by means of which a support is provided being simple and very efficient for the purpose designed.
More particularly my invention relates to a combined hose and dress-skirt supporter which consists, essentially, of bands properly arranged with relation to each other to facilitate the same for proper adjustment upon the person of the wearer to best accommodate them to throw the Weight of the supported articles upon the shoulders.
That my invention may be more fully understood reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the support as viewed from the forward adjustment upon the person of the wearer. Fig. 2 shows the adjustment of the support and its appearance as viewed from the back of the person of the wearer.
In the figures, a adesignate the main bands of the support, which are carried over the shoulders and part way down in front of the wearer.
I) is a supplemental strap fastened to the bands Ct a, connecting the'bands a c with strap d, to which the hose-elastics c c are fastened, they being fastened at any angle which is comfortable to the wearer. The elastics e e are provided with f urcated straps f, having clasps t' i thereon for connecting with the hose. I have also shown the elastics provided with clasps K to facilitate in the lengthening of the said elastics.
c c are straps fastened to the strap 1) near the center and are drawn under the bust and connected to the waistband B by means of the hooks c c. The hands a a are carried down over the back of the wearer and are connected with waistband B by means of the hooks Serial No. 597,888. (No model.)
straps cl d and the elasticse e, and are carried over the front part of the person and fastened to the supplemental strap g, which said strap extends up and is connected with bands a a at their point of crossing.
The application and use of the support is described as follows: The device applied in the manner shown will insure the proper support of a dress-skirt at the proper placethat is, at the point in the back and around toward the sideand by means of the strap 1), which connects hands a a to the straps dd, to which the hose-elastics c e are fastened, it will be seen that as the straps 0 care connected with the strap bin the front, and the strap g, which is fastened to the hands a a at their point of crossing, and to which are fastened the auxiliary straps cl cl, which are carried around the front of the body and fastened to the straps d d and elastics e e, the weight will be balanced, so that there will be an equal drawing on both sides of the person, which accommodates comfortable bearing upon the shoulders.
The skirt is put on after the hose-supporters are fasten ed, and by so doing presses both the straps band g against the wearers body, so that there is no bungle. band is put on over the straps b and g the bands a aand the straps cc are fastened to the skirtband. This brings the hose-supporters next the body under the skirt.
The advantage of this combination of straps is that the weight of skirt and hose is equally divided between front and back, so that there is no pull either way, but is perfectly adjusted on that part of the shoulder which least feels its weight, as the weight on this part of the shoulder gives no tendency to stooping, as is characterized by the suspenders and supporters now in use, which come lower down on the shoulders. It will be also noticed that the weight of skirt and hose is entirely independent of each other and the pull of one does not in the least affect the other, though the weight of both is equally distributed between front and back on the bands a a on the shoulders.
After the skirt- 1 Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a skirt and hose supporter, consisting of the bands (1, a, forming ayoke and adapted to pass over the shoulders and down the back of the wearer and provided with clasps adapted to be secured to the waistband B, of the strap 19, secured to the yoke just below the neck of the wearer and extending down to a suitable point on the body, and having the straps (Z, (Z, fastened thereto, to which are secured the elastic tapes 6, e, provided with clasps for supporting the hose, of the straps c, c, in combination with strap 1), which ex- MIABIE BARBERO PARRX XVitnesses:
