UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM SOHEID, or HARRISON, NEW JERSEY, AssIeNoR TO THE DRAPER COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,724, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed December 22,1896. $erial No. 616,651. (No model.)
T0 on whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM SOHEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to spinning-spindles having a flexible connection with the spindlerail, so as to be capable of adjusting themselves to unbalanced loads.
The invention consists in the details of construction and the combination of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of my improved spindle-support, and Fig. 2 a sectional view on the line m 00 of Fig. 1.
In said drawings, a represents the spindlerail, penetrated by the tube b, containing step and bolster bearing for the spindle '5, having the sleeve 7a and whirl m, receiving motion in the usual manner.
The tube 19 is provided in the center of its lower end with a conical-shaped recess resting on the conical-shaped end of the set-screw f, which latter is arranged and adapted to operate in the bushing g, secured to and projecting from the U-shaped frame h. The shanks of said frame bear with their upper portions against the sides and rest with their flanges h on the top of the rail.
On the tube b and below the rail is adj ustably arranged, by means of the thumb-screw e, a sleeve 0, provided with an annular flange 0, bearing against the intermediate elastic washer d, arranged on the under side of the rail and surrounding the tube 5.
The tube 1), which is of smaller diameter than the opening in the rail which it penetrates, is, by the arrangement heretofore described, allowed suflicient yielding motion and the latter can easily be regulated by means of the set-screwf, either alone or in conjunction with the sleeve 0, as will be manifest.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a U -shaped frame arranged at right angles to said rail and depending therefrom, a tube penetrating the rail and above the central portion of said U-shaped frame and provided in its lower end with a conical-shaped recess, a set-screw arranged vertically in the central portion of the frame and engaging with its conical-shaped end the said recess in the tube, a sleeve adj ustably arranged on the tube and below the rail, an intermediate elastic washer between said sleeve and the rail, and a whirldriven spindle in the tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination with the spindle-rail, of a U-shaped frame depending from said rail and having its free ends bent inward and resting on the rail, the upper portions of the shanks of said frame bearing against the side of the rail, a set-screw arranged vertically in the central portion of said frame, a tube resting on said screw and penetrating the rail, a sleeve adjustably arranged on said tube and below the rail and provided with an annular flange, an elastic washer between said annular flange and the rail, and a whirl-driven spindle in said tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of December, 1896.
ADAM SCHEID.
