SPINDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,381, dated September 21, 1897.
Application filed April 19, 1897. Serial No. 632,755. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM SCHEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, Hudson county, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The objectof my present invention is to provide a spinning-spindle with means for flexibly mounting the same on the spindlerail and for quickly changing the perpendicular position of the spindle to an oblique one when so desired.
The invention consists in the arrangement of an auxiliary bushing penetrated by a vertical hole having its axis at an oblique angle to the axis of the outside of said bushing, and which bushing is adjustably secured within an inclined hole or opening in the spindlerail, and which, together with the said rail, is adapted to support the spindle-supporting tube, substantially as willbe hereinafter more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a spindle-rail in which are mounted a spinningspindle and its supporting-tube and provided with my improvements; Fig. 2, a cross-sectional view through the rail and the auxiliary bushing and also illustrating a portion of the spindle-supporting tube; Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the spindle adjusted at an angle to the rail; and Fig. 4, a top plan view of a portion of the spindle-rail.
In said drawings, a represents the spindlerail, provided with a vertical inclined hole or opening 1), adapted to receive the auxiliary bushing c, which latter is provided with an annular flange c, resting on the spindle-rail, and is penetrated by a vertical hole 0 having its axis at an oblique angle to the axis of the outside of said bushing. The said bushing fits loosely in-the inclined hole 12 of the said rail and is adapted to be secured thereto by means of the set-screw 0 The vertical hole or opening a of the auxiliary bushing c is penetrated by the tube d, containing step-and-bolster bearing for the whirl-driven spindle f, and is provided with an annular flange cl, resting on the intermediate elastic washer 6, arranged on the annular flange c of said bushing.
On the downwardly-projecting portion of the'tube cl is arranged a nut g, bearing against the spiral spring h, which latter surrounds the said tube and bears with its upper portion against a ring or washer 1', arranged on the under side of the rail.
It must be stated that the bushing 0 does not extend the entire depth of the inclined hole b, so that the said bushing can be turned or adjusted within said opening I) without coming in contact with or bearing against the ring or washer i.
\Vhen the spindle is to be adjusted to a perpendicular position, the bushing c is rotated until its central hole is perfectly vertical, and is secured in said position to the spindle-rail by means of the set-screw 0 In this position the lower surface of the bushing will be parallel to the spindle-rail.
Should it be desired to place the spindle obliquely to the spindle-rail, the bushing c is turned until the required position is obtained, as will be manifest.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
, 1. The combination with the spindle-rail provided with an inclined vertical hole or opening, of a bushing adjustably arranged in said inclined hole or openingand penetrated by a hole having its axis at an oblique angle to the axis of the outside of the bushing, a tube penetrating said hole in the bushing and flexibly mounted thereon, and a whirl-driven spindle in saidtube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. The combination with the spindlerail provided with an inclined vertical hole or 10 a whirl-driven spindle in said tube, all said parts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
