Description

(No Model.)
G. O. DRAPER. SUPPORT FOR SPINNING SPINDLES.
" 110. 431,511. Patented July 1, 1890-.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.JrEORGE OTIS DRAPER, .OF HOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE DRAPER & SONS, OF SAME PLACE.
SUPPORT FOR SPINNING-SPINDLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. {131,511, dated July 1, 1890.
Application filed February 11, 1890- Serial No. 340,004. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE OTIS DRAPER, of l-Iopedale, county of WVorcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Supports for Spinning-Spindles, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
In this my invention I have provided a sleeve-whirl spindle with a compound swiveled bolster composed of two parts, each having at its outer side a rounded projection or enlargement to contact with the interior of the supporting-case, one of said projections being above and the other below the line of band-pull on the sleeve-whirl, the band-pull coming between the two swiveled parts of the bolster.
Prior to my invention a bolster has been swiveled in the line of the band-pull, and so, also, a step has been swiveled.
By dividing the bolster into two swiveling parts and having the band-p ull between them, which is feasible only when a sleeve-whirl is used, the entire bolster-bearing can be perfectly aligned with the spindle, which is very difficult to accomplish, owing to imperfections in both spindle and bolster, especially when the bolster is in one piece.
Figure 1 in elevation and section shows a spindle and support embodying myinvention;
Fig. 2, an elevation of the compound bearing or bolster removed from the supporting-case.
The supporting-case A rests on the rail 13 in the usualmanner. The lower end of the posed of two parts a Z), each having an annular projection a or b, the projection a contacting with the interior of the supportingcase at a point above the grooved or bandreceiving portion of the whirl and the line of the band-pull, while the projection 12 is located below the line of band-pull; or the said projections are so arranged that the bandpull comes between them, the said projections acting independently as swlr el-bearin gs. The rotation of the part a with the spindle is restrained by the pin 13, and the projection 2 of the part b entering a notch in the part or acts to prevent rotation of the part b and also makes a joint between a and b; but the said parts may be restrained from rotation in any usual manner without this connection without departing from my invention. As shown, the lower end of the part Z2 rests on a shoulder 4 of the bolster-case.
I claim 1. A sleeve whirl spindle, a supportingcase, and a compound bearing made in two parts, each part having a projection to permit it to swivel in the supporting-case one above and the other below the line of bandpull, substantially as described. v
2. The sleeve-whirl spindle, the supportingcase, and the two-part bearing jointed together, each part having an external annular 7o projection to enable the said parts to swivel independently of each other, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. I
GEO. OTIS DRAPER.
