Description

(No Model.)
B; D. HINKLEY. DENTAL RUBBER DAM HOLDER.
No. 576,518. Patented Feb. 2, 1897.
. HHIIIIIHH UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELISHA DAlVLEY HINKLEY, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DENTAL RUBBER-DAM HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 576,518, dated February 2, 1897.
Application filed March 24, 1 8 9 6.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA DAWLEY HINK- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Dental Rubber-Dam Holder, of which the following is a specification;
My invention relates to improvements in dental rubber-dam'holders in which concave vertical plates are used to retain the rubber dam in position.
The objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a complete rubber-dam holder Within itself; second, to afford facilities for the proper attachment of the rubber dam to the holder by its own elasticity without puncturing or tearing the same. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows a detailed view in perspective of the device.
A A are concave vertical plates, whose form and shape on the inner surface conform to the general outline and contour of the face, while the interior edges of the plates conform to the outline of the mouth when open. Each plate affords three points of attachment 0 O O for the rubber dam, which are round or oval-like balls soldered to the plates, over which the rubber dam is stretched and held Serial No. 584,721. (No model.)
by its own elasticity. The plates hold the rubber dam in close proximity to the face at every point of contact, thus preventing the secretions of the mouth from flowing out to soil the patients clothing. Said plates, with their six points of attachment, hold the rubber dam firmly always in the same position after being adjusted, regardless of any change in position of the patients head, without the use of Weights or other cumbersome contrivances, thus giving the operator the free use of both hands to Work with independent of the rubber dam.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
The combination in a dental rubber-dam holder, consisting of two metal plates, conforming to the general outline and contour of the face; concaved in their centers, and convex at their extremities, with three round balls for attaching the rubber dam, and with elastic bands for holding the device in position on the head, all as and for the purposes described.
