REELIN'G AND SEVBRING DEVICE- 1210.5753730. Patented Jan. 26,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRI ARMAND PERAUT, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
REELING A ND SEVERING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,730, dated January 26, 1897.
7 Application filed October 30, 1896. Serial No. 610,537. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LHENRI ARMAND PERAUT,
a citizen of France, residing at Paris, France,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reeling and Severing Devices for Gummed or Adhesive Coated Paper or the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to a handy reeling and severing device for containing in roll form a narrow strip or fillet of adhesive or gummed paper or other material adapted for repairing mutilated bills, bank-notes, (he.
The principal objects of my invention are, first, to provide a simple, durable, and effective handy reeling and severing device for containing in roll form a narrow strip or fillet of adhesive or gum-coated paper or other similar material, and, second, to provide a device of the character described in which the parts are readily assembled, with the reel containing in roll form a narrow strip or fillet of paper or the like, having one side or-surface coated with gum or adhesive material for use as a means of repairing mutilated currency, bills, notes, &c., or as a binder or holder for such articles, and the said device provided with a bail having a clamping and severing appliance connected therewith forpreventing unrolling of the strip or fillet of paper or the like, as well as affording the means whereby a small parcel or strip thereof may be evenly and readily severed from the remaining portion in roll form upon the reel of the device.
My invention, stated in general terms, consists of a handy narrow gummed fillet or adhesive coated paper strip reeling and severing device constructed and arranged in substantially the manner hereinafter described and claimed. The nature and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which- Figure '1 is a side elevational view of a device containing a narrow strip or fillet embodying main features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, and Fig. 3 shows side and front elevational views detached of parts of the device of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, A is a roll of wood or other material upon which the ribbon, strip, or fillet of transparent or translucent paper, linen, or other preferred material B is mounted and having one surface coated with gum or a suitable adhesive substance I).
c and c are disks of pasteboard or other material applied to the ends of the roll A to constitute the reel. The said disks are held to position by means of the prongs cl and cl of the bail D, provided with an arched clamping and severing appliance E, crimped or otherwise secured to the cross-arm d of the bail D in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The narrow ribbon, strip, or fillet B is removed by hand by drawing upon the free end thereof and severed crosswise by means of the clamping and severing appliance E.
The several parts may be readily assembled, as will be understood, when the narrow strip or fillet has been caused to assume a circular form upon the reel A and portions likewise easily withdrawn therefrom.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in a reeling and severing device, of a roll upon which a strip of gummed paper is adapted to be wound or reeled, two disks supporting the sides of said roll, a bail in which the disks and roll are pivoted, and a curved plate carried by said bail and adapted to rest upon the reeled paper on the roll, said plate having cutting edges adapted to sever the paper from the roll, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRI ARMAND PERAUT.
