Be it known that I, ALFRED SHAOKLETON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Merlin, in the county of Josephine and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar numorals of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout both views.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which is provided with a neck the walls of which are in clined outwardly and upwardly, so as to form at the lower end of the neck an inwardly-directed annular projection on which in practice the brush is wiped in order to remove the surplus mucilage therefrom, said neck being also provided with a removable cap or cover having a central depending tubular extension formed thereon through which and through the cap or cover the handle of the mucilagebrush is passed and in which said handle is adapted to be held by friction.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom pan ying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section of my improved mucilage-bottle, and Fig. 2a plan view of the cap or cover.

In the practice of my invention I provide-a bottle 5, which may be of any desired form and composed of any desired material, and the top thereof is inwardly contracted and slightly conical in form, as shown at 6, and said tube is provided with a neck the walls of which are inclined outwardly and upwardly, as shown at 7, or said neck is conical in form, with the base thereof directed upwardly, and by means of this construction there is formed at the lower end of the neck an inwardly-directed annular projection 8, on which the brush is adapted to be wiped when removed from the bottle, so as to remove the surplus mucilage therefrom. l

The neck 7 is provided at its upper end with an annular flange or rim 9, and I also provide a removable cap or cover 10, which is adapted to rest thereon and which is provided centrally of the lower side thereof with a downwardly-directed tubular attachment 11, the lower end of which is slightly larger than the upper end and the central bore of which is projected through the cap or cover 10, and placed in said central bore are two packingrings 12, of rubber or similar material, and the lower end of the tubular attachment 11 is larger than the upper enchand the central bore thereof is slightly conical in form, and the extreme lower end of said tubular attachment is preferably bell shaped in form, as shown at 13.

The cap or cover 10 is provided on its lower side with radial ribs 14, four of which arepreferably employed, and said ribs are connected with the depending tubular attachment 11, and the cap or cover 10, the radial ribs 14, and the tubular attachment 11 are preferably formed integrally and may be composed of glass or any desired material, and said radial ribs 1e are preferably provided with central openings 15, by which the Weight of the cap and its attachment is decreased and the necessity of employing an unnecessary amount of material obviated.

I also provide a brush having a handle 16, which is adapted to be passed through the tubular attachment 11 and the cap 10, as shown in Fig. 1, and to be held in position by frictional contact with the packing rin gs 12, and said handle is also preferably larger at its lower than at its upper end, so as to correspond with the form of the tubular attachment 11 and the central bore thereof. My invention, however, is notlimited to the form of the tubular attachment 11, and said attachment may be of the same size throughout, if desired, as may also the handle 16 of the brush. and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof.

It will be understood that in practice the removable cap or cover 10 is removed with the brush when it is desired to use the latter, and the surplus mucilage on the brush is removed therefrom by wiping the same on the inwardly-directed annular projection 8 at the lower end of the neck of the bottle, and the shapeof the top or upper part of the bottle and the neck is such that the surplus mucilage will flow back into the bottle, and if at any time mucilage should dry or cake on the neck so as to interfere with the operation of the removable cap or cover and the tubular attachment 11 the said dried or caked mucilage may be easily removed by means of a knife or other instrument.

My improved mucilage-bottle is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, while being also comparatively inexpensive.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck the walls of which are outwardly and upwardly inclined, so as to form an annular inwardly-directed projection at the lower end thereof, a removable cap or cover for said neck, provided with a central depending tubular attachment, and a brush, the handle of which is adapted to be insert-ed through said tubular'attachment, and to be held therein, by friction, said tubular attachment or the central bore thereof, being provided with annular packing-rings of rubber or similar material, by which the handle of the brush is held in position, said cap or cover being pro vided with radial ribs which are formed thereon, and connect with the central tubular attachment, substantially as shown and described.

2. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, the walls of which are outwardly and upwardly inclined so as to form an annular inwardly-directed projection at the lower end thereof, and a removable cap or cover for said neck,which is provided centrally with a downwardly-directed tubular extension, through which the handle of a mucilage -brush is adapted to be inserted from the lower end thereof, said tubular extension being also provided with packing rings or bands through which the handle of the brush is inserted, and by means of which it is held in said tubular extension, substantially as shown and described.
