HINGE FOR WlNDOW-SHUTTERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 574,508, dated January 5, 1897.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALFRED H. WEEKs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rockville Centre, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Hinges for IVindow-Shutters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,forminga part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to hinges for window-shutters and the obj cot thereof is to provide an improved hinge of this class by means of which the shutter will be locked in place and cannot be blown off or accidentally removed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanyin g drawings form a part, in which .Figure 1 is a side view of my improved hinge; Fig. 2, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.

In the practice of my invention I provide a hinge which consists of two parts, one of which is adapted to be secured to the windowframe and the other to the shutter, and in the drawings forming part of this specification A represents the part which is adapted to be secured to the window, and B the part which is adapted to be secured to the shutter. The part B is provided with two angular plates at and a which are secured thereto or formed thereon, and which project outwardly therefrom, and each of which is provided with a tubular head a and the part B, which is designed to be secured to the shutter, is provided with an extension or arm b,at the end of which is formed a tubular head b I also employ a hinge pin or pintle D, which is provided with a head d, and the lower end of which is provided-on its opposite sides with longitudinal grooves d which are adapted to receive corresponding splines d formed on the inner surface of the tubular head a the object of this construction being to prevent the turning of the hinge pin or pintle D.

In placing the shutter in position the tubular head 17 is placed between the tubular heads a and the hinge pin or pintle D is passed downwardly through said heads in such manner that the splines d will enter the longi tudinal or vertical slots or grooves d and the shutter will be free to turn on said pin or pintle.

It will be understood that two or more of these hinges may be employed, and it will also be understood that when the shutter is thus hinged to the frame it will be impossible for it to blow off or be otherwise accidentally removed, the only way that it can be moved being to first raise or remove the hinge pin or pintle D. V

The construction of the head or cap of the hinge pin or pintle extends outwardly far enough to prevent water from entering the tubular head through which the hinge pin or pintle passes, and by thus preventing the entrance of water or moisture into the tubular heads through which the hinge pin or pintle passes I provide means for protecting the same against rust.

This device is simple in construction and operation, and is well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shutter-hinge which consists of two parts, one of which is adapted to be secured to the frame of a window, and the other to a shutter, that part which is adapted to be secured to the frame of a window being providedwith two tubular heads or projections, and the other being provided with a single tubular head or projection which is adapted to be placed between the others, and a hinge pin or pintle, which is adapted to be passed through said tubular heads, one of the heads which is connected with the part adapted to be secured to the frame, being provided with vertical splines or ribs, and the hinge-pin with vertical grooves, and said hinge-pin being also provided with a head, substantially as shown and described.
