CORKSCREW-KNIFE.

To u/ZZ whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL HUGO MLLER, a citizen of the Kingdom of Prussia, residing at Solingen, in the Kingdom of Prussia., German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corkscrew-Knives, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.

The present invention consists of a pocketknife having in combination therewith a corkscrew which is pivotally and also longitudinally movable in the knife-handle, thus allowing a longer and more convenientform of corkscrew than that hitherto employed without, however, unduly increasing the length of the knife-handle; and in order to render the present specification more easily intelligible referenceis had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters denote similar parts throughout the several views.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pocketknife provided with a corkscrew according to the present invention, the corkscrew being in its operative position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the knife-handle, showing the corkscrew closed; Fig. 2, a section on line a: Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is a top View of Fig.

2, and Fig. 4 shows detached details of the corkscrew and its attachment-ring.

The back of the knife-handle is provided at the sides with bearings c for a ring a, Fig. 4, having trunnions g g, which are pivoted in the said bearings. The corkscrew A is provided with a longer stem than usual, carrying at its end a square head b, said stem fitting in and being longitudinally movable in the pivoted ring a. At the rear end of the knife-handle a flat spring c is arranged, which rubs against the iiat side of the head b and prevents the same from sliding easily in the ring a when the corkscrew is closed, thus retaining the samein the position shown at Fig. 2.

To open the corkscrew, it should iirst be slid out through the ring ce until its head I) closes against the same, when it may be turned into the position shown at Fig. l, the flat head b resting against the back of the knife. The sides or bearings e prevent the corkscrew from turning freely when it is being screwed into the cork.

I claim as my invention* A pocket knife having a pivoted ring mounted at the back thereof, and a corkscrew having a stem and adapted to slide in said ring, a square head to said stem and a fiat spring located in the back of the knife and adapted to bear against one side of said head in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
