DEVISE FOB. WASHING FORMS.
N. 573,410. Patented Deo. 15, 1896 @witnesses THE nonms paens co, Pnomuwo.. WASHING-ron, D c,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER LINCOLN IIEMPIIILL, OF GILLESPIE, ILLINOIS.
DEVICE'FOR WASHING FORMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,410, dated December 15, 1896. Application filed January 6, 1896. Serial No. 574,470. (No model.)
T0 all whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER LINCOLN HEMPHILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gillespie, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Tashing Forms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for washing forms in printing-offices; and it has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple, cheap, light, and portable device in which the forms may be quickly and easily washed without liability of leakage or injury to the forms.
Other objects and advantages of the inventionwill hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specication, and in which- Figure lis a front elevation of my improved formwashing device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sec tion through the same from front to rear. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the frame, showing the flanges.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring now to thedetails of the drawings by letter, A designates the supportingframe, comprising the end pieces, having suitable heads or bases, upon which they may rest, and these end pieces are connected by the cross bars, rods, or supports B, against which the forms are designed to rest while being Washed. The lowermost rod, bar, or support is provided with the hooks O for holding the forms.
E is a splash-pan, preferably of metal. rlhis pan has formed or cast therewith a cylindrical Water-receiver F, the said pan and receiver being detachably aflixed to the frame by flanges f at its opposite edges, sliding in grooves or ways g on the adjacent inner face of the upright pieces or sides of the frame and stayed in position by screws II or otherdevice constructed in accordance with my ini vention will be readily appreciated by those having occasion to use such devices, especially in country printing-oflices, where usually a wooden box having a metallic lining is employed for this purpose.
Modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacriiicing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A form-Washing device comprising the frame, the transverse supporting device connecting the end pieces thereof and means for supporting the forms, and a splash-pan in the rear of the supporting device, said splash-pan being provided with iianges and being engaged in grooves in the sides of the frame and detachably supported in position, substantially as described.
2. The form-Washing device described, consisting of the end pieces, the rods connecting the same for supporting the forms, the hooks on the lowermost rod, a splash-pan detachably supported on the end pieces and having an outlet for the water, substantially as described.
3. The form-washing device describedl, consisting of the end pieces, the rods connecting the same for supporting the forms, the hooks on the lowermost rod, a splash-pandetachably supported on the end pieces and having an outlet for the water, said pan being provided with water-receiving portions and oppositely-disposed curved heads to prevent overflow of the Water at the sides thereof, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALEXANDER LINCOLN HEMIIIILL.
