A. B. HILTON. HOLDER FOB. TALLEY SHEET AND MANIFOLDING DETAGHABLE SALES SHEET SYSTEMS.
Patented Dec. 15,1896.
NlTED STATES ALBERT B. HILTON, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
HOLDER FOR TALLY-SHEET AND MANIFOLDING DETACHABLE SALES-SHEET SYSTEMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,990, dated December 15, 1896.. Application filed February 8, 1896. Serial No. 577,839. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT B. HILTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Tally- Sheet and Manifolding Detachable Sales-Sheet- Systems, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a holder for manipulating a continuous or revoluble tallysheet with manifolding detachable salessheets employed in connection therewith; and in such connection it relates particularly to the construction and arrangement of such a holder for said purposes.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, durable, and effective holder for the manipulation of a continuous or revoluble designated tallysheet in conjunction with manifolding means and detachable sales or fly sheets adapted to be withdrawn lengthwise from the holder after the recording of the transaction on the tally-sheet and transfer by 111 anifolding of the same to a sales or fly sheet.
My invention, stated in general terms, consists of a holder for a tally-sheet and manifolding detachable sales-sheet system constructed and arranged for operation in substantially the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The nature and characteristic features of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder, with parts broken away, embodying features of my invention; and Fig. 2 is an end view of the holder in broken section.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the bed or base plate of the holder, and at or about the respective corners of the same are provided depending curved brackets a, a, a and a, with recessed heads for engaging and supporting longitudinal shafts or rods 11 and Z2, carrying the respective ends in roll form of a designated tally-sheet G, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. These shafts or rods l) and b are held in position by means of catches or clasps c and c, pivotally secured to the series of brackets and each provided with a projection forreadily disengaging the same from each of the rods or shafts b and b. At the respective ends of the base-plate are provided curved metal arms (1 and d, embracing the shafts or rods Z) and I) and bearing against the inner ends of the respective buttons or knobs e and c to hold the same under more or less spring-tension. The buttons or knobs e and e, mounted on the ends of the rods or shafts, are provided with set-screws f and f, so as to permit of the shifting of the same on said shafts or rods 1) and b, to increase or decrease thereby the tension or frictional bearing of the curved metal arms (Z and d against said buttons or knobs on the said shafts b and b, to maintain uniform under required tension the tallysheet rolled around each of said shafts or rods 12 and b, and adapted to be wound from one to the other by revolving a button or knob e or e.
Mounted on the bed-plate A is a tablet pro vided with a series of fly or sales sheets D, and interposed between the topmost sheet D and the under side of the tallysheet G is a manifolding or carbon sheet E, whereby impressions indicated upon the tally-sheet may be transferred by means of the carbon or manifolding sheet E to one of the fly or .sales sheets D in order that an accurate transfer may be made upon a fly or sales sheet corresponding with the recorded data or transaction of the tally-sheet O, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
It may be here remarked that the tallysheet mounted on the shafts b and b occupies such a position with respect to the base-plate A, as before explained, that a constant tension is maintained, due to the location of the shafts b and Z), that is, on a plane with the bottom a of the base-plate A. Moreover, the curved brackets a, a, a and a form supports for the holder in operative position. The fly or sales sheets D, in connection with the manifolding sheet E, located beneath the tally-sheet G, are so arranged in relation to said rolling sheet 0 as that a fly or sales sheet can be withdrawn lengthwise of the base plate A without disturbing a manifolding sheet E between the tally sheet O and a fly or sales sheet D of the pad containing a se ries of such sheets. The tally-sheet 0, it being understood, is adapted to be rolled crosswise of the base-plate A, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
It will be observed, owing to the spring arms d and d, under which the shafts Z) and b are held under required tension, that the necessity of providing a perforated clampplate in connection with the tally-sheet O is obviated, because the same is maintained taut and in required smooth condition without such to enable a record being made of the transaction, and at the same time by manipulating one of the buttons the tally-sheet With the recorded transaction can be wound up into a roll and another part unrolled to present a new portion to enter the transaction thereon.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for a tally-sheet and manifolding sales-sheet system, comprising an oblong base having at the ends thereof supporting curved brackets, paper-roll rods or shafts mounted in the free ends of said brackets, said shafts or rods provided with buttons or knobs and arms secured to the ends of said base and the outer ends thereof engaging said shafts or rods so as to maintain the same under tension, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A holder for a tally-sheet and manifolding sales-sheet system, comprising an oblong base provided at the ends with curved supporting-brackets having the free ends slitted, rods or shafts provided with adjustable buttons or knobs and a tally-sheet in roll form on each of them, said rods or shafts engaging the slits of said brackets, catches or clasps pivoted to said brackets and adapted to engage said shafts or rods, arms secured to said base and engaging said shafts or rods adjacent to said buttons or knobs, and a tablet provided with a manifolding sheet and fly or sales sheets inserted between said tallysheet and base, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT B. HILTON.
