G. P. WASHBURN. BOILER.
Patented Nov. 17; 1896.
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES ATENT FFIQE.
GEORGE P. 'WASIIBURN, OF MCGREGOR, IOlVA.
BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 571,713, dated November 17, 1896.
Application filed September 9, 1896. Serial No. 605,330. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it kn own that I, GEORGE P. Wasnnuan, of llIcGregor, in the county of Clayton and State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Boiler, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to certain improvements in boilers, and more especially in the arrangement of the draft in heaters which are used for cooking vegetables and heating water in large quantities.
"With these objects in view the invention consists of the details of construction and arrangement which will more fully appear hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure l is a longitudinal. vertical sectional view showing the heater placed in a barrel. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the lid or cover removed. Fig. 3 is a view showing the application of my draft.
Like numerals and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
In the practical application of my invention I use a tank or barrel A, of any ordinary construction, for the water, &c., to be heated. The heater B is placed in the barrel or tank, so as to rest on the bottom thereof and to extend above the water therein, as is naturally the casein all agricultural boilers of this class. The said heater is to be made of any suitable material and consists of the furnace fire-pot or combustion-chamber 0, preferably cylindrical in form and adapted to rest on the bottom of the barrel or tank and extend up through the top of said barrel. The bottom 2 of the said furnace-pot, as is usually the case, is located a short distance above the lower edges of the sides thereof and has openings 3 for the free circulation of the water under the bottom of the said heater. A concentric partition 4:, constituting a fuel magazine or feeder, depends from the top 5 of the said heater down into the same a short distance from the bottom of the said heater. The said partition t is attached at the top to cover '7, which fits down into the chamber 0. The said cover 7 is provided with the lid 8, which acts as a cover to the fuel-magazine. A smoke-outlet 9 is provided at the top of the cover 7 lVhen the magazine is clogged with the fuel and it is desired to increase the draft and to provide an increased supply of air in order to insure perfect combustion of the fuel, I provide a damper 10, situated at the lower end of the said f uel-magazine. The said damper fits into the guideways c and is operated by the draft-rod d, the lower end of which is connected to the top of the said damper, the said damper-rod cl projecting upward through the said cover where it can be easily operated.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In the herein-described heater, consisting of a fire-pot, as described, the fuel-magazine depending from the top thereof, a cover, a lid situated on said cover and adapted to cover the fuel-magazine, a smoke-outlet, a draftdamper situated at the lower end of the fuelmagazine, said draft-damper fitting in guideways, guideways for the reception of said damper, means for operating said damper consisting of a rod attached at the lower end to the top of the said damper and passing up throu gh the said cover, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE P. IVASI-IBURN. lVitnesses:
F. M. N nwooms, S. Nonrnoorr.
