FRANK V. KNAUSS, OF PORTSMOUTH, OHIO.
REMOVABLE MlCA FRAME OR HOLDER FOR HEATlNG-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 571,597, dated November 17, 1896.
Application filed December 9, 1895. Serial No. 571,494. (No mndeh) To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK V. Knnuss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Im provemcnt in Removable Mica Frames or Holders for Heating-Stoves, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a stove, showing the application of my removable mica frame or holder; Fig. 2, a detail view of the 1nica-fran1cg Fig. 8, a vertical section of the frame through line a; a; of Fig. 1; Fig. e, a section of mica prepared for insertion in the frame, and Fig. 5 a view of the forked holder by which the frame is removed and replaced.
My invention relates to improvements in detachable and replaceable mica-frames for stoves, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The peculiar construction and manifest advantages of the device will be apparent by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- A designates the door of a heating-stove provided with openings 2. The mica-frame 3 has corresponding openings, the innerborders of which are rabbeted, as at 4, forming shallow recesses or seats for the mica plates 5, which are perforated at their centers and accurately fitted to the said recesses. The cross-bars of the frame carry upwardlyextending integral arms 6, which terminate atpoints directly over the centers of the mica plates, and areprovided at their extremities with apertures 7, which register with the perforations in the mica plates. The said arms and mica plates may thus be readily united by ordinary paper-fasteners 8, the two points of which are clenched upon washers on the inner sides of the plates. If preferred a suitable screw-bolt and nut may be employed for the purpose.
It will be observed that by this means the mica plates are drawn into and firmly secured in their recesses.
The 1nica-frame is removably attached to the body of the stove or door by a curved lug 9, extending from its upper end, which ongages an aperture 10 in the wall of the stove or door. The lower end of the frame is beveled, as at 11, and fits a corresponding notch or inwardly-inclined ledge 12. The frame may be thus readily removed or replaced, whenever desired, by introducing the forked holder 13 between the cross-bars, as at 14c.
The extreme inner corners of the frame are provided with small projections 15. It will be seen that by this means the borders of the frame are detached from the adjoining walls of the stove. An unbroken interval is thus formed between the frame and the stove, and an unobstructed ingress of air is allowed, which efiectually prevents contact of smoke with the mica, and the latter remains untarnished.
If it be desired to suspend the micaframe in a transverse position, it is provided on one side with lugs, which engage apertures 16.
hat I claim as new is 1. In a stove or furnace the herein-described removable mica frame or holder provided with recesses adapted to receive centrally-perforated mica plates; arms overhanging the centers of said plates and means for drawing and retaining the plates within said recesses substantially as specified.
2. A removable mica-frame for stoves, comprising a frame, an integral arm thereto, a mica sheet fitted in said frame and secured to the end of the arm, and lugs at the corners of the said frame, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of October, 1895, in the presence of witnesses.
FRANK V. KNAUSS.
